ECU Defense

Postby Stallion » Sun Nov 21, 2010 5:02 am

has surrendered 40 points or more in 8 out of 11 games. In the last 3 games opponents are averaging 60 points per games

They are easily the worst Defense in Division 1A:

However, they average over 38 points per game:

Those are all crazy numbers

I would expect a strong effort from ECU on their senior day after getting spanked by Rice, but this is SMU's opportunity to show the program is headed in the right direction. This is a huge game if we are going to take it to the next level. Let's go EARN that CUSA west title

We need to put together 2 complete halves of football. We need to look like the team that played in the 1st half yesterday against Marshall. Do that, and I like our chances. Otherwise, we may not score enough points to stay in it,

This can all be explained with two words:

At the time of the hire, I didn't think that Ruffin would be THIS bad... but I agree completely with CalallenStang.

ECU has a huge head coaching problem.

I hope it remains a problem at least one more week.

ECU has adapted the same defensive philosophy employed at TTU by McNeil. The ECU D's job is to occupy the opponent's offense long enough for the the ECU offense to get a drink and make some adjustments. And that is exactly what they do. ECU doesn't have a defense and perhaps they have some key injuries on O that prevent them from out scoring their opponents of late.

Our O has to play well (like against MU in the first half and not like UTEP the entire game). And our D does have to shut ECU down a few times.

Its a little unfair to blame this all on McNeil. ECU had only 2 returning defensive starters this year-that is extremely rare.

IIRC one of the announcers said that ECU had 19 players injured yesterday. They could really be at less than full strength when they play us.

NEVER FORGET...

Just because a team gets blown out one week is meaningless!

Oregon State loses to pathetic Washington State last week and everyone "ASSumes" that USC will have a cake walk last night when they played at Oregon State.

WRONG!

My "Fighting Methodist" played like "Frightened Methodists" as Oregon State beat the living crapola out of us!

USC was never in the game even with Barkley going down and a rusty Mitch thrown in with the "first team".

SMU has to be really concerned that ECU is licking its wounds from their Rice debacle and we'll be overly inspired to beat the manure out of the Ponies and ruin our aspirations.

JJ needs to use last night's Trojan performance as an example of reading too much into the Rice defeat and come ready for a war at ECU's house!

FORGET RICE
