Josh McCown......again

Postby Diehard Pony » Sat Jul 17, 2004 7:25 pm

While I am thrilled to have the quarterbacks we have today, most especially Chris Phillips, the McCown thing keeps rearing it's head.

While at the club working out today, something called the NFL Quarterback Challenge is on CBS. Who is competing in it, along with 8 or 9 of the league's top quartbacks is none other than Mr. McCown. I don't know how he made the cut to be in this event, but they kept referencing the fact that "who would have thought that Josh McCown would be competing in this event a year ago".

To make matters worse (or better if you are a Josh McCown fan like I am), after two days he is in 3rd place and would have been in first had his designated wide receiver caught a perfectly thrown deep ball for a touchdown.

The finals are tomorrow afternoon, and I guess I will be pulling for the pride of Sam Houston State. Thanks again Mr. Cavin.

The pride of Jacksonville

The McCown brothers have held a football camp passing clinic in Jacksonville for two summers now. The SM alibis about not having material don't always hold up when you see the ones who got away. Coaching matters too.

I saw that. The announcers asked McCown if the receiver (Troy Brown) had apoligized, and he said "Yeah. I guess that was a $20,000 apology."
He looked pretty good out there. Maybe a little nervous, but overall, pretty darn good. Good luck to him.

Didn't get to see the final part of the NFL Quarterback Challenge today. They moved it from yesterday's time slot of 4-5 PM to 1-2 PM, and I wasn't aware.

Did anyone watch it and, if so, how did Josh finish up?

Yeah, I saw it. Or part of it, anyway.
Troy Brown screwed him again, dropping another EASY pass. The announcers determined that Brown had cost McCown $80,000. McCown joked about it, saying he has three (!) kids, and that Brown owes him some cash.
I think he finished sixth overall. Should have been better, but Brown's butterfingers really hurt him.

Cardinals: Green compares McCown to Favre

by Fanball Staff - Fanball.com

News
Cardinals' head coach Dennis Green named third-year quarterback Josh McCown as his starter this spring. Green has taken his faith in McCown one step further by comparing his young signal caller to a future Hall of Fame quarterback. "McCown can be like Brett Favre," Green told the San Diego Union-Tribune on July 17. "He reminds me a lot of Favre. He is a tremendous athlete, 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, with 4.6 speed and a vertical leap of 39 inches." Green also explained why he didn't use the No. 3 pick in the draft to select a quarterback. "I did not want to waste the period between January and the April draft and then find out that none of those college quarterbacks are ready to play, and none of them are." Green also predicted that McCown will "set the NFL on fire."

Me too - I wish him all the best.

Didn't realize he had ANY kids, much less three! Did he and his wife have twins or triplets?

(When the announcers were joking with him on the money Troy Brown "owes" him, he did say something about about "I'm from Sam Houston, so I'm not sure, but I think it adds up to $80,000." At least if he was fumbling around with his math, he ID'ed himself as a SHSU grad. No SMU grad struggles with such things!)
