DMN Live Chat with JJT on SMU

Postby StallionsModelT » Wed Dec 01, 2010 2:13 pm

JJT: Love your work. How impressed are you with what June Jones is doing at SMU? Also SMU returns 19 starters next year. Do you think SMU has the chance to be the next BCS buster ala TCU?

1:11 JJT: June is doing great job. It's yet another confirmation that coaching matters. A coach with a great system comes into a moribund program and turns it around in three seasons. It also shows why SMU needs to find a new hoops coach Matt Doherty is a nice guy and he's done a good job of raising money, but that program is absolutely, positively awful - and it doesn't have to be. SMU needs another 2-3 years before June can really get his system going. Once he can start a red-shirt junior at QB and that guy throws for 4,000 yards and 35 touchdowns - think Texas Tech under Mike Leach - the Ponies will have arrived.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Why not a true Junior who can do the same thing?

If we aren't ranked at the end of next year I will be disappointed...

Coach himself said we are still a year and half recruiting wise away from the depth we need to be top 15.

Kaiser should be that guy in 2013.

Not to mention, we play the "good" teams in the C-USA East. USM, UCF I believe are in there.

from all the comeback games by opponents (when we were up by at least 2 TD's), it's clear we need more depth on O and D. Next year's schedule is too tough. Kyle's Senior year (2012/13) I am hoping we'll be in the Top 20 with some badass WR's.

Gotta replace the whole o-line in 2012. Kyle will probably be running for his life. With Baylor, A&M and TCU for our OOC games it's hard to see us being ranked unless we run the table in C-USA.
