Loss: All Padron

I stated previously waiting patiently for an upgrade at the QB position. Its hard to be critical of Mr Padron since he is such a great competitor but his inconsistencies I fear will continue next year. I bet by the time we hit kick off of game one, he will be talked about as a heisman contender once again and all watching today's game will forget his shotty play. It wasnt just today's performance but realistically he has struggled often. I have high hopes in our development of a stronger QB and look forward to taking it to the next level. Mr Padron certainly is the best we have at this time but we can not grow with this level of play at QB

Let me be clear about my opinion of Kyle. I respect his courage. I respect his competitiveness. Undoubtedly he is the best QB we have in practice and probably in a game. It is just a fact that some people play well under pressure and some do not. He has said he has too much adrenalin at times. If that is the case he needs to be calmer. I do not know him and I am not a psychologist, but I do see him fall apart in big games. That tells me he is like the golfer we all know who can do great on the driving range, but whose game falls apart when it is on the line. If Kyle can't get a hold of himself then he will never get better. How do those of you who argue for him to have more time, etc. reconcile that with the fact he was beaten today by a true freshman. A freshman who outplayed him all day. If we can recruit a better quarterback I hope we do and replace him. If we don't and he does not learn to play when it counts we will not be a top tier team. If he can learn to play in the big games then he will be successful. If SMU is to become what we want it to be then we need a quarterback. I don't care if it is Kyle or someone else, but we need a quarterback.

But he was not out QB'd by a freshman, UCF's QB is just a phenominal athlete, he only put up 17 points should have thrown 2 picks. UCF doesn't ask him to do to much. Not taking anything away from him because not turning the ball over is a great accomplishment but I would not say he beat us, we beat ourselves today, and honestly with the exception of the Houston and TCU that is how we have lost all season. We have the talent need to learn to execute

He's not where he needs to be for us to step up to the next level. Given. Maybe he lacks consistency, maybe he gets too amped, maybe he just doesn't have the talent. BUT, maybe this is just a QB that's just completing his first full season as a starting QB at a level beyond junior high, and we will see him take a step in his maturity next season.

I think what we can agree on is that Kyle is better than what we've had in the past, and our short-term success is likely tied to his success.

We do need a QB that makes the throws that were missed today, agreed. But how can you be so sure that a more seasoned Kyle Padron isn't that QB? That's the only point where I would disagree on your post. Padron could get there, but we likely won't know until next year.

No need to disagree with me, since what you just said is what I meant to say by my post. It wasn't explicitly stated, and perhaps it should have been. When I said we needed a QB that could make the throws that he didn't make today, in my mind I was leaving that as an opportunity for Padron to step in and be able to do that down the line or a new QB altogether. It may have seemed like I dismissed him, but that wasn't my intention.

I think everyone is forgetting that Kyle is just a SOPHOMORE! He only played half a season as a freshman and only played half a seaon as a senior in high school. Also, June's offense is supposed to be VERY complicated to learn. Look at Bo Mitchell and all the interceptions he threw in his year and a half of playing time in June's offense. From some of the things I have heard this year he has performed much better in the system at Eastern Washington, which might not be as complicated aa June's. Of course, I like Ron Meyer's old philosophy of "Keep it Simple, Stupid" but that apparently is not the motto that June goes by. Remember last year when Padron stepped in for Bo in Houston and June had to limit the offense because Kyle only knew a quarter of the defense? Obviously he is still trying to get a handle on it. I wouldn't expect more from Kaiser either. It evidently just takes time to get comfortable with the various schemes and reads that have to be made with this offense. That is why I expect significant improvement from Kyle next year. Addtionally, the extra practices provided because of the bowl game this year should only serve to make him even more knowledgeable of the offense for next year.

Gotcha. I think part of the thing that's frustrating is that he'll make one good play, then one play where he looks lost or indecisive. I hope he can step up, because we'll be a lot further along if he is.

While Padron may have not played his best game, just having a discussion about how we could have won a championship game is a far cry from the dark days of even a few years ago.
Glad to see that June has this program headed back in the right direction!

It seems to me that Kyle just needs more confidence. He still seems unsure where to go with the ball so he just holds it hoping that someone will obviously get open. John Hampton also said in the radio broadcast that Kyle needs to improve on throwing the ball in the middle of the field if he wants to become an elite QB. As he gets to know his receivers better, improves his reads, and gains confidence with the system, hopefully, he will make much quicker decsions that will help him to this goal and help us win these games!

In order for SMU to beat great teams we need for our receivers to make Big Plays. That was exacerbated by the fact that we had to go 80-90 yards all day. I know Robinson consistently makes big plays. Darius made 1 big Run and Catch. But how many times did the receivers put the ball in the end zone. I know Aldrick got deep a few times. A couple of times the DBs made big plays. Late in the game Robinson was running all alone by about 5 yards but Padron didn't see him. I actually think signing big play WRs who have home-run ability is rapidly ascending the list of most vital recruiting needs. Late in the game when Padron was getting rushed-I think our receivers were fatiqued-I didn't see any receiver fighting like Sanders to make big plays in the clutch. A breather every once in awhile couldn't hurt
