Five Mustangs Named First-Team All-Conference
Most SMU Selections Since 1984; Three More Named Second-Team

Dec. 7, 2010

IRVING (SMU/C-USA) - Five SMU student-athletes have been named first-team All-Conference USA, the league office announced today. The five selections mark the most for SMU since 1984, when seven student-athletes were named first-team All-Southwest Conference. Mustang standouts Kelvin Beachum, Jr., Ja'Gared Davis, Zach Line, Aldrick Robinson and Taylor Thompson were selected for the team by the league's 12 head coaches.

Beachum, a junior from Mexia, Texas, has started all 12 games this season at left tackle for an SMU offense that has rolled up a school-record 5,391 yards of total offense.

Davis, a Crockett, Texas, native, has notched 82 tackles this season, with 15 for-loss, along with nine sacks. He has also scored TDs on a fumble return and a blocked field goal return.

Line, a sophomore from Oxford, Mich., has rushed for 1,391 yards this season, which is third-best at SMU, trailing only Eric Dickerson's 1981 and 1982 seasons. He also leads C-USA at 107.0 yards per game.

Robinson, a Waxahachie native, has tallied 1,225 receiving yards this season to become the only Mustang with two 1,000-yard seasons. The senior has also notched 13 TD grabs this season, setting a new SMU record and enters the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl with a receiving TD in seven straight games, which is the record at SMU.

Thompson, a junior, has racked up 32 stops in 2010 with 4.5 sacks. The Prosper, Texas, native has started every game at defensive end and is an anchor in SMU's 3-4 scheme.

Also honored were second-team choices Chris Banjo, Cole Beasley and Youri Yenga. Honorable mention picks were J.T. Brooks, Richard Crawford, Pete Fleps, Margus Hunt, Blake McJunkin, Kyle Padron and Taylor Reed.

C-USA champion UCF and West Division champion SMU produced the most total selections with eight and the most first team choices with five.

First-year Darryl Fields was also honored as he was named kick returner for the All-Freshman team.

The All-Conference Mustangs and their teammates take the field again on Dec. 30, when they play in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl in Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas. For more information on SMU's appearance in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl, click here.

Great job to all Mustangs named or mentioned. About time the conference recognized the talent at SMU. And only one Sr. in the 1st five.

Interesting that Thompson made the 1st team here (deservedly so) and Phil Steele didn't even have him on his 4th team all-conference. Nice work to all!

I think Banjo should have gotten one of these last year.
SMU took a chance on me. I'll never turn my back on it.

ha i doubt that. They complimented each other very well. He allowed Banjo to play in the box and be the force that he is and that gave him free range of the middle
