Re: The Bishops' report...in case anyone's interestedThis doesn't change anything in my mind. Everyone was doing it, others got off without any sanctions because they did it more stealthily. The NCAA has never done enforcement well or equally. Didn't then and doesn't now as evidenced by the Newton fiasco. Should our administration stopped the cheating without a doubt, but they used us as an example and it didn't change a thing in college football. The only reason other cheating scandals haven't been tied to other administrations is those administrations turn a blind eye - a crime of omission. Please tell me with a straight face that Pete Carroll did not know there was cheating at USC.

doesn't care who wins. -- Dwight D. Eisenhower
Re: The Bishops' report...in case anyone's interestedHow about a casino owner, the owner of a defunct southern bank, Oh that might be Auburn.
The NCAA is so messed up - We could have gathered the good minds and may have crushed the ncaa. Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"

Re: The Bishops' report...in case anyone's interestedi believe we are seeing a developing a story right now in auburn that is similar - total institutional knoweldge across the board of cheating. USC is the same just a few years ago. And there for sure are others. To think that no other school has had buy in at the top on recruiting violations is hopelessly naive.
Re: The Bishops' report...in case anyone's interestedSome of you people need to wake up ans smell the pony [deleted]. There has never been a comparable case to early-80's SMU. Name one school who had the freaking state governor lying to the NCAA for it and then turning around and blessing the payments at the same time he was telling the university president to shut the [deleted] up.
Show me the person who watches Thad's film and then comes back and think SMU did not do anything everyone else wasn't doing and I'll show you an idiot. I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Re: The Bishops' report...in case anyone's interestedOne very critical point to all this, and it may have been covered in Pony Excess, is that the NCAA gave SMU a chance to avoid the death penalty just before it handed out the punishment.
All SMU had to do was name everyone involved. SMU's top brass refused to do so, probably to protect Clements and other VIP boosters. If SMU had given up the names, we would have avoided the death penalty. At least that's the plea deal the NCAA was offering. We would have been punished severely, but the football program wouldn't have been shut down. When we refused to cooperate fully, the ax fell. Because a few rich men couldn't have their reputations tarnished, the reputation of an entire university was stained for decades with the death penalty label.

Re: The Bishops' report...in case anyone's interested
It probably changed a lot in college football. I'm sure afterwards there was more than one closed door meeting where the topic was let's make sure we don't get caught.
Re: The Bishops' report...in case anyone's interestedjtstang, this board is made up primarily of idiots.
Re: The Bishops' report...in case anyone's interestedAt A&M the situation was almost as bad. I personally knew two past Board Chairman, they were on my board, they borrowed money from us, and were socially close dispite our age differences, they were appointed by the Governor (?), both served as long-time A&M trustees, and both directly involved in serious recruiting violations. I also know that the AD and Head Football coach were directly involved, they knew and cooperated. By their appointments, to the board and later as Chair of a major state insitution the situation was very comparable to SMU's--and they never resigned. I assume they just told the President of the school to turn the other way. Unfortunately, they have since passed away.
Ironically, both were involved at the time A&M was almost exposed by Dale Hansen just prior to Dale moving on to SMU--they told me that they at the time they just closed ranks and continued to do as they had been doing for a number of more years Stallion--I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.
Re: The Bishops' report...in case anyone's interestedif you read the junction boys by jim dent you know the first thing bear bryant did was form a group of boosters to pay players.
i can only assume he did the same thing at alabama. smu had the full force of all the dallas media going after it. other schools are protected by the local media. i wish it hadn't happened but it did. we have no idea how extensive other schools were involved but in texas i think it's fair to say that a&m ut and tcu were up to their eyeballs. i'm sure many schools over the years in the sec were also heavily cheating. did you ever wonder why so many kids go to nebraska. must like the weather. now cam newton and usc where nobdoy knew anything. the beat goes on.

You prove time and time again you are related to Stallion... Do you try to be an [deleted] or is it in the blood...

Here is the NCAA Report on Texas A&M around the same time. You can compare it with the Bishop's Report and decide for yourselves. UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: The Bishops' report...in case anyone's interestedNick, the "legend", a series of unprovoked attacks...I will get you some bean dip for your lithium.
Re: The Bishops' report...in case anyone's interestedYou didn't answer my question, and I have not commented one time on the subject, b/c I wasn't around at the time...
However it is my contention that everyone does this still and my guess is that the Admins know about it more than you think but there is plausable deniability...
