If true, this could be a ploy for Jones to get more money out of SMU. Coaches and their agents have been known to do this.

Agents are honest, loyal people and would do no such thing. How dare you accuse them.

reports have JJ pulling down up to 2.75M as it is...unless he's trying to get more for the assistants, I dont see it.

Another possibility would be that he really does want one more shot at the NFL...the comments the other day, then interviewing w/ Maryland to signal that yeah, he's open to interviewing for stuff.

What NFL job that will likely be coming open would give him a chance at going to the super bowl in the next couple of years? And don't say Cowboys, because I think they have farther to go than everyone in Texas will admit.

Start going 10-2, 11-1, etc............. just being one or two games over .500 is not going to get this program into the top 25.

Now would be a good time for the General to start a PANIC thread.

I think for June to get another shot at running a NFL team he'd have to pull a Gilbride and ditch running the R&S as a base offense. I just don't see any team wanting to bring him in considering the lack of success he had there and the 10 + years he has been away from the league.

I have a hard time believing he leaves us for Maryland, but the Hawaii fans probably said the same thing back in 2007.
Back off Warchild seriously.

$2 million is enough. We are playing in the Armed Forces Bowl not the Sugar Bowl.

It can't be about money. He's getting paid very well here.
Plus if it is about the money, the all of his "I'm here for a higher purpose" stuff he's said the past few years would have been complete BS.

It also could be, that June is pretty upset that Pres Turner has left Steve Orsini hanging in the wind, without a contract. Turner is pulling a power play on Orsini, because Steve didn't put down the rebellion a couple of months ago. Don't be fooled by Turners smiles, when the picture was taken with regards to recent admission changes, he did so very much against his will. Some of you on this board are VERY aware of what I'm speaking of.

good point.

And OTP makes a better one...people don't interview just to interview. Not coaches at the stage of career that JJ is in. He doesnt need to polish up his interview skills.

Of course, all of this could be the Maryland AD name-dropping about some phone calls he made in order to save face.

Ominous words, though: "I havent talked to SMU. I'm not gonna talk to SMU." -JJ in 2007
