Maryland has a long way to go to get Leach. First, MD has either the lowest or second lowest football budget in the ACC depending on whose figures are used. Figures are either 8.5 million or 11 milion depending on whose figures are used and they are in the bottom quarter of all Div. I programs. Facilities are ok, but nothing special. The HS talent levels in VA, MD, NJ, WV and PA are not high and must service Penn State, Pitt, WV, Rutgers, Boston College, Syracuse, UConn, U of Buffalo with serious inroads from Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Iowa plus VA Tech and Virginia. Simply stated, there is not enough HS talent in the region to support all of these programs with national calibur talent. Leach, who has limited roots in the area, will have a real tough time recruiting going against the existing networks of these other school. MD will need to seriously up grade some facilities, pay higher coach and staff salaries and vastly enhanse the recruiting budget to get Leach. All is possible; however, it remains to be seen if MD is willing to vastly change their complacent view of football and whether or not they are willing to spend the extra 4-5 million that will come with hiring Leach.

This JJ said that Survivor was the toughest challenge he's ever faced. Apparently he's looking for new challenges.

He admitted earlier that he hangs out on cruise line message boards so I doubt there is much chatter there - yet

Yeah, Maryland wouldn't make a ton of sense considering the shape the program is in (much better than his normal reclamation projects, which he has stated he prefers) and the manner in which they treated the last coach (who turned the program around after 14 years of mediocrity only to be shown the door after an 8 win season and conference coach of the year honors).

The more I think about it the more sense JJ to Maryland makes. I think that strongest argument that this is a BS rumor is why would JJ walk into Maryland after what they did to Friedgen. We all know that JJ wants the AD and admin to stay away.

The link he posted yesterday to that Cowboys/Red River Match.com-esque site was kinda weird. I never knew they had meet up boards for dance partners.

After the commitment made to Jones, we should be able to do a lot better than an assistant who has only been coaching football for 2 years even if it would preserve continuity.
They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security
