Maryland AD met with June?Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Maryland AD met with June?First remember those rates measure recruiting classes signed 5-6 years ago. But, if you look at straight Graduation rates then UT's are low. Reasons include players leaving for NFL Draft, running players off and admitedly off field conduct). But if look at Progress Toward Degree Rates which actually measure academic performance based on those in attendance during any particular year then SMU and UT's recent rates are virtually identical with SMU rates trending down. (PS don't look at some of June Jones Progress Toward Degree rates at Hawaii). These have all been posted before.
As for Vince Young he was a full qualifier and passed all NCAA entrance requirements. Unlike SMU there is no avenue for a non-qualifier to ever set foot on UT's campus as they don't take them out of high school and they don't take JUCOs who might have been a nonqualifier out of high school. Re: Maryland AD met with June?I apologize. The University of Texas recruits the finest scholar athletes in America. Vince Young is another Einstein, and the graduation rate only seems low because I did not go to UT and don't have the necessary academic background to understand that the numbers don't mean what they seem on the surface.
It is a miracle that Mack Brown has won a single game if one considers the late nights his players put in doing extra credit work at the library and writing groundbreaking research papers. How could I have been so silly. Mack, UT, DeLoss: God bless you and God bless Bevo.
Re: Maryland AD met with June?As we have discussed many times before...they are Texas and we are SMU...if/when we get to the level of taking whatever recruits we want, we can raise standards to whatever matches the level of recruit we want bad enough...
Stallion loses the jury by bringing up UT, thats like comparing US cases with Soviet Union cases...
Re: Maryland AD met with June?I didn't bring up Texas. Topper did when he made the often repeated suggestion that SMU apply the same standards as Texas. I was pointing out that June Jones would quit tommorrow if he was forced to use their admission standards

Re: Maryland AD met with June?I'd be curious to know what standards exist at Tulsa. I've never been a Todd Graham fan, but the program up there is consistent, and they seem to be able to get transfers and jucos in with regularity.
Re: Maryland AD met with June?OK... I'll ask again. Can any head coach meet with a different school while he is under contract without the AD's permission?
I know players need to get permission to speak with other coaches if they are thinking about transfering... does the same thing apply to coaches? Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall
Re: Maryland AD met with June?
If the price of winning is drama, it seems pretty cheap. We have put up with it for 10 years. I wouldnt trade it for anything. We pretty much are numb to the annual "end of season who is coming after Gary" mess. He and June and, more importantly, and their assistants make so much that there are only a few top BCS schools that can afford them. Maybe 15-20 and I dont think any of those are in need. Look at how CU had to toss their cards to the middle of the table for JJ because the pot was too rich. JJ makes more than every Big 12 South coach except Stoops and Brown.
Re: Maryland AD met with June? There is no law that says that you can't meet with a Coach without requesting permission. Its customary in business and ethical. Its not uncommon in the business world for a company to file a lawsuit for tortious interference with contract if an employee is under Contract. Depends on wording of the Contract. Damages would likely be limited by contract terms and buyout clause. I believe the standard NFL Coaching Contract has limitations prohibiting contact without permission.

Re: Maryland AD met with June?I am pretty much always supportive of June Jones and I am sure I don't know all whats being played out here....but I dont like the fact that the Maryland offer became public...
I suppose it may or may not be possible to keep quiet. But mainly I dont like the fact that June says he has talked to other schools too. Sure we all try to better ourselves, but why go out of your way to add that you've already talked to others besides Maryland? What message does that send to recruits and our current young players? I really dont fault June for listening to others....but why come out and announce you already talked to others even before Maryland...when that was not public knowledge? Maybe this is a way to play a move in a behind the scenes chess game with Turner? I dont really know....but I dont like it. C-ya @ Milos!
Re: Maryland AD met with June?IPP- I couldn' t agree more. IMO the less he said the better.
GO PONIES!!!
Re: Maryland AD met with June?
Are you going to make an overnight switch from blindly supporting all thing June Jones to blindly hating all thing June Jones, much like you did with Phil Bennett? "I think Couchem is right."

Re: Maryland AD met with June?I too wish he had not said that but I wonder if he just said it in passing to downplay the nature of the Maryland visit. Kind of just saying "Hey, it happens all the time and I told them no just like the others.". Team seems satisfied with his explanation. We will see if it affected them tomorrow and if it affected any recruits no later than early February.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Maryland AD met with June?
Are you ever going to be anything but a major league a-hole to me? Dude you are obsessed with attacking anything and everything I say. (NLMA) It's ok I guess, but just kind of wierd. Oh by the way...is it soooooooooo odd to support a guy when he starts and then after his performance is not acceptable to not support him? C-ya @ Milos!
Re: Maryland AD met with June?
Yeah that very well could be true mrydel. i certainly hope so.....jezzzz do I ever! Otherwise it could be a very bad sign that things are much worse than they appear. C-ya @ Milos!
