For me, for my personality, I do worry about the players and hope they handle things positively.

I think we go 5-7 next year and we will not be a better team (due to losses at key positions). I do think we will be better in 2 years. Just my opinion.

We have a lot of people coming back next year, talented recruits coming in, and several talented red shirt freshmen on the team. Padron should improve next year and a little QB competition wouldn't hurt. I remember how well Padron played in the Tulane game in the second half after JJ put in the 2 team QB for a few series. I think Padron threw 3 TDs in the last 20 minutes of that game. He was as good in the 4th quarter as he was last year in Hawaii.

Agree with everything but this. I think we have found our RB - you need to keep maybe Pope back there and then move Fields to somewhere that he can use his athleticism (RGV mentioned olb)...he apparently can't pick up the block and that is a deal-killer for a RB in this system. Keep developing Pope, push Line to keep getting better, and get your athletes on the field.

Thank you...just amazing that some of the people on this site would tweek what is working...pretty sure Coach Jones recognizes what Zach Line delivers, both in the run and blocking. Still crazy that on December 30th after 14 games, and 1,494 yards there is still doubt as to who is and should be the running back at SMU. No offense to Fields, but running back in the R & S is demanding and you take big hits from big DE and LB...Fields seems somewhat prone to injuries. If he is that fast, seems like a great fill for a receiver spot.

I'm just glad we're still talking football this late in the year. Hope to be doing the same next year. Guess it's finally time to focus on basketball. Hope they haven't missed us...much.
Don't worry. Be Happy. Or not.

Didn't I admit that it was a crazy idea? Just saying, ILB is my once position of major concern next season where I haven't identified a replacement. And the coaches said all year that Line would be a starter on either side of the ball.

There is just no way that Thompson, Hunt, Reed, Davis, Banjo or Crawford improve any next year. They have peaked and the world ends for SMU football.

I just don't see how Padron, Line, the entire returning O-line and all those young receivers get any better. A whole off season to work out and get bigger, faster, stronger isn't possible. The world once again ends.

Recruiting is part of the process. Kids improving year in and year out is the real key. With rare exception, Freshman don't win championships. Jrs. and Srs that have worked hard for years win championships.

We will be better. Kids will work hard in the off season to improve. Kids coming off redshirt will compete for playing time and push current players to get even better. Does anyone really think our Defense has reached it potential? That Hunt is at NFL speed yet? That Padron can't get any better?

The barn isn't bare. It is full and getting more every year. We are getting more and better horsepower every year.

Stair Step Progress-how programs are built

SMU under Ron Meyer as recruiting classes matured:

3-8
4-7
4-6-1
5-6
8-4
10-1
11-0-1

I will say though that there is a greater chance of upward mobility in CUSA than the Old SWC because of greater disparity between the Haves and the Have Nots(read Recruits). Instructive nonetheless
