He had great games against Rice, East Carolina (terrible pass defense), etc. but played exceptionally poor against Texas Tech, TCU, UCF, and Army. I like the kid. I think he has earned the right to be the starter next year. But if this offense continues in this fashion the team should make a change.
why might that be? Maybe because those were the games where the Offensive Line could not hold up against the pressure, even when keeping Zach Line in as a blocker, which by the way gives the qb one less option. Not only that, we have small receivers, which makes it that much harder for a qb to beat the blitz and locate them. I just don't think Padron is our problem against good teams.
Why do you think they were good teams? Their DBS dominate our receivers, Their D-line dominates our O -line it is difficult to move the ball. Forcing any team to consistently go 80-90 yards a drive to score is hard enough. Throw in the fact we are one of the youngest teams in D 1 just compounds the problem.

On another note, how can we get Daryl Fields more playing time?
I would think the coaches will face an uphill battle in convincing Fields to play anything BUT running back.

ncaa.com has stats on our red zone efficiency through 13 games: 43 RZ drives 36 scores (30 TDs, 6 FGs) 13 rush/17 pass TDs 84% efficiency Ranked #50 in NCAA

Turnover Margin was the main difference between 2009 and 2010....
Whether you like it or not Padron gives us our best chance to win...and right now thats what we need to do...

we had a +2 turnover margin last year, divided by 13 games = +0.15/game that would put us around #47 this year. huge difference between that and #108. gotta hope things go back to more like 2009 form

I would be interested to know what the turnover ratio was in games that Moore played. Our CBs were much deeper in 2009, and that appears to be the main difference.

You know you're in trouble when a regressing and increasingly turnover prone QB is your best chance to win.

Is it not possible the increasing turnovers is a result of Jones telling him not to hold on to the ball and to take more chances? There are some major issues with Padron but I don't think we know the full story with him

It's possible but even if that was the case Kyle is still holding onto the ball way too long and the chances he does take make little sense (he often throws ducks down the field late in double + coverage). I don't even see him out there trying to look off defenders often enough. His entire thought and delivery process needs to be done in 3 seconds, after that if he still has the ball he needs to either wrap it up and run it or throw it away. Having a better center should clear up some timing issues but he still has to deliver better, quicker throws.

I guess I am not as worried about our QB situation as others. I don't expect a soph to play like a Jr or Sr. I expect him to play like a Soph. That includes mistakes and learning.
One of the absolute best ways to improve is through practice. A Sr. has had two more years of practice over a Soph.
Padron had a good year. He didn't play on defense this year which had some weak games. Don't think we can blame him for that. Padron didn't play on the punt return team which also had some weak moments. Padron didn't play on the kickoff team which also had some weak moments. Hard to blame him for that.
Padron didn't play receiver and drop some easy catches that would make a difference in the game. Guess we can't be blamed for that.
We had four Sr. starting for us on both sides of the ball. That isn’t a Sr heavy team by any definition. We still have a lot of kids learning their positions, including Padron.
Padron and a bunch of other kids get better next year. Not because JJ sprinkles them with Pixie dust but because they have another year to practice, practice, practice.

all of these arguments for and against are fine...but I can't help but note the following:
-I agree with those that say an offense that takes a QB 3, 4 years to run is too complicated; -case in point: our conference champ won CUSA and beat UGA with a true freshman QB
I will not make age an issue in this campaign. I'm not going to exploit for political purposes my opponent's youth and inexperience.

Yes and 9 starting Sr (of which 4 were redshirt Sr.). UCF had as many redshirt Sr starting as we had total Sr starting. That means UCF had as many players with 5 years of practice time starting as we had with both 5 and 4 years of practice time. Experience makes a big difference and that experience can be used to shelter a Fr QB.

Seniors starting on offense: WR 81 Kamar Aiken Sr. LT 66 Abré Leggins RSr. RT 76 Jah Reid RSr. HB 43 Ricky Kay Sr. as opposed to SMU, where we similarly had a starting senior wide receiver, in addition to a left tackle who as a junior started every game of his career, and the conference's leading rusher at running back. I'm not trying to get sideways with you, and we do have a lot of upside. I just don't think we should be comfortable hearing that three years out of every four is going to be a learning curve time/grace period until our QB understands the 'o'.

Experience goes a long way and it will for us as well. And that includes the QB position.
The whole team has been on a learning curve. That includes some young recievers and young defensive players. Another year of practice and learning the system will go a long way.
