Re: Rummor: Patterson to Michigan?Michiganis still michigan so it will always be a preminent destination just like texas still was in the 90's. No one is mentioning the TCU is on the way to the Big East and will likely have the ability to dominate an AQ conference. TCU is in for a windfallof money so my bet is he stays put.
Re: Rummor: Patterson to Michigan?
I recognize the fact that you dislike anything and everything that has to do with the Big 10. But that really is an amazing comment. Don't worry about the fact that Michigan has won the most games in the history of college football, has won multiple national championships and I believe the most conference championships (I think it has more than Ohio State) in the history of the Big 10 and breeds tradition at every turn. It has one of the best stadiums and breeds financial resources and the best helmet. If you refuse to acknowledge that Michigan is arguably one of the top 10 jobs in College football, then you're a sucker for the ESPN crawl where that one story said quoted and unnamed source saying Harbaugh wouldn't move for another college job. FYI -- there's an agenda by what every source says and leaks. You're out of your mind for even suggesting what you said.
Re: Rummor: Patterson to Michigan?I'm going to also say this:
Every storied College football program goes through its down cycle. Texas and Alabama had it in the late 80s through the mid 90s. Think Texas wants to relive the David McWilliams and John Mackovic eras? Think Alabama wants to relive the Ray Perkins, David Shula and Bill Curry eras? USC went through it. Think USC fans want to relive the Larry Smith, Paul Hackett eras? OU went through it. Think OU wants to relive the Gary Gibbs and John Blake eras? Ohio State went throug it. Think Ohio State wants to relive the John Cooper era? Michigan is now going through its down cycle. Nothing is forever.
Re: Rummor: Patterson to Michigan?Michigan has not won a national championship since 1997, and has not won a Big 10 Championship since 2004 (split)/ 2003 (outright).
I am not a person to forget tradition/history, as Michigan is the most successful college program over the last century, BUT the kids growing up were in grade school the last time Michigan won it all, and in middle school when Michigan won its conference. As a part of the millennial generation, we want to know what you are doing for me now, which is why I think it has lost its glitz/glamor to a certain extent. I still think it is a top 10 job in the country, but Ohio St, Florida, USC, Texas, and Alabama are certainly better more glamorous jobs today. Re: Rummor: Patterson to Michigan?Have to agree....Michigan is a top 5 job...the big house, the money, its all there for the right guy...
Re: Rummor: Patterson to Michigan? With all that I said, Fatterson would be a fool NOT to listen to Miiiiichigan. He's gone as far as he can with TCU, and I think it's time to take over a big time program.

Re: Rummor: Patterson to Michigan?
All those schools you mentioned are on the other side of their down periods. That's why I said Michigan is going through it's down cycle now. When kids visit Michigan, all they have to do is take a tour of the trophy room. It's pretty full. They understand trophies. They also understand that if they're going to add to the collection, they need to work for it. It won't be handed to them like they think it should be.
Re: Rummor: Patterson to Michigan?
A Michigan Man? Definitely not. A Michelin Man? Patterson definitely fits the criteria.
Re: Rummor: Patterson to Michigan?
Les Miles was derided by his fansbase and still crapped on the Michy job 3 years ago. And he is a Michy guy. No way that happens to a top 5 job. I don't think GP would stray that far North considering his Texas pipeline. He would have to change his recruiting profile. Not to mention, Michigan hates anything considered gimmicky such as his 4-2-5 and spread offense. RR's 3-3-5 and spread drove them nuts. They want the Wiscy model. They should hire Chryst away from them. 3 downs cloud of dust... Last edited by froglicious on Thu Jan 06, 2011 12:21 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Rummor: Patterson to Michigan?Sad that I have a better in at TCU than SMU - GP is not going anywhere (at least 2 more years)
Re: Rummor: Patterson to Michigan?Michigan will not hire a coordinator.
But Michigan would appreciate Patterson's physical approach to the game on both sides of the ball. I know I do. I wish SMU was playing that style of football.
Re: Rummor: Patterson to Michigan?Change his Recruiting style??? I don't know if you looked but Michigan out recruits TCU and many schools every day of the week....He could have whatever kid he wants...please do not use this in argument...
Re: Rummor: Patterson to Michigan?
Yes. it would be easier to attract recruits that RIVALS think are players. GP and his staff search for talent throught their HS coaching network. If the stars are there so be it. We would roll Michy this year because A: we are more talented and B: better coached. Many of our speedstes from backwater recruiting trails would never make the trek to Michigan. RIVALS has holes in their system. Mainly that a guy like Dalton commits to TCU his Junior year and refuses to take additional visits even though some of the "Marquee Programs" inquired. Since he never showed as a UT/OU/agg target Rivals had him as an under the radar guy. If he had visited UT or OU he waold have been 3-4 *. BTW, the Texas Pipeline is where GP has the biggest upper hand on JJ right now. But JJ gets it. He is getting with HS coaches to help sell the program to their kids. Kids that may run just as fast but didn't play at a high profile HS. I would put our under rated classes against any when it comes to speed and athleticism. Couple that with smarts and character and whatelse do you need?
Re: Rummor: Patterson to Michigan? What I am saying is he could recruit whomever he wants...A school like Michigan makes guys rivals rankings...they could be un heard of, Patterson grabs them they commit and all of a sudden become 4 stars...
