He was complaining about the heater in his pick-up not working today. Maybe it was a not so subtle hint.

Will it be purple and black or red and blue?

You had to expect as soon as the Maryland coaching story hit the press it was open season on SMU recruits.

Shockingly, this is what happens when you recruit talented players. Believe it or not, another school actually wants an SMU recruit. Man, I miss the good-ol low stress days of Phil Bennett where we never had to worry about any of our recruits defecting because nobody else offered them.

Maybe Sherwood can call him. . .straighten this whole thing out.
It's probably apparent from my posts on this thread that I re-watched Pony Excess again yesterday. Seventh time!

On the other hand this year you don't have to hear me objectively analyze the Class as a mediocre class full of sleepers that nobody really wanted like in the low stress days of Phil Bennett. Its a trade-off.

Re: Carter Wall sniffing around elsewhere
It's a free market system. He should look around to see what opportunities are out there.
Everybody talks about college athletics being a business. Well, if he's a part of it, he should see what's available. Maybe he sticks with SMU. Maybe he switches (does he actually have an offer from TCU? if so, is it written or verbal?).
I'm sure there are enough people ticked at him questioning his loyalty (see my panic thread for accurately nailing the stereotype) when some of you are also seeing if there's a chance some kid SMU is talking with (but committed elseswhere) will switch.
Always remember -- ORAL COMMITMENTS ARE NON-BINDING!
P.S. -- I thank God I don't even know how to find facebook.

yes just once I would love to hear a fan state-"We don't want that kid-he decommitted from a BCS school to go to SMU-the guy has no character and can't be trusted"

What a STUPID hypocrite. You ramble for years about everything that SMU needs to do to improve recruiting, but when it comes to something as easy as making our football team more appealing to a younger generation of recruits by changing our uniforms, that is were you draw the line. Where has the "heritage of our program" taken us over the last quarter century? Moreover, the point does not just apply to Carter Wall, it applies to all young recruits who have no idea about the "heritage of the program".Stallion wrote:
The Traditional schools that hold onto tradition and heritage and have created and bult their own brand and mark over decades are the ones that are successful in recruiting. Texas, Ohio St, Alabama, Penn St., USC, OU, ND, LSU, Georgia, Michigan wouldn't put up with this June Jones University crap for long. [/quote]
UT, tOSU and OU out of that list have done the alternative unis in the last two years. PSU, ND, Mich are very average despite the rich traditions. The trend is to warmer climates and and flash. tOSU gets it. Michy not so much. The SEC may be immune simply because the entire conference rocks. However, Florida has done quite a bit of experimenting. Then again they dont have the rich history of Bama, AU, GA, LSU, UT, etc. Their success is fairly recent.
With that said, I think the SMU unis are pretty sweet whether it is blue or red jersey with white pants. The black jersey wasnt a turn off either.
The hottest chick in the world still wants to be trendy when she dresses up for a party. If a recruit thinks your gear is boring you better be in the SEC or one of maybe 6 other programs in the country. Neither of our schools fit that criteria.

If Wall sticks with SMU, would this be the first recruiting win against them since their turnaround? I'm sure there are tons of examples, but the only "battle" that comes to mind is Clifton Murphy.

Yea, I can't think of any recent recruits that have opted for SMU over TCU. Dyryck Gilden, David Bush, Sam Carter, Blake Roberts, Elisha Olabode, Matt Anderson, Clifton Murphy, Jurell Thompson, Tanner Brock, Josh Boyce, Corey Fuller, Blaize Foltz. Had both SMU & TCU offers and opted for TCU.
If June sticks, SMU will improve its recruiting but the bar isn't set for TCU yet. SMU should beat Houston, Tulsa, Tulane, etc. first. Then go after Baylor. And then start competing with TCU, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech. 5 years ago, TCU was taking under the radar guys that no one else wanted.
