longhorn networkOk this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: longhorn networkThe prime reason the Big XXII (with 10 teams) will fold within 3 years - the North hates being pushed around by Texas and will bolt as soon as they can figure out how. Only a matter of time.
Re: longhorn networkHopefuly there wil be a major lawsuit representing the players who are being exploited at these universities and not sharing in these revenues. The public university room, board and tuition is no longer sufficient when the money involved is in the hundreds of milions. I am specificaly talking about the football players which are funding entire university athletic programs and coaches salaries which are out of sight. And some basketball programs.
Re: longhorn networkon the other hand there are about 60 Division 1A kids that filed for Undergraduate NFL Draft-nobody is stopping them from taking their talents to the NFL. I say good riddance to all those kids because they don't belong in college football anymore. That argument that they are in slavery or bondage by getting a free education is a generally a lie. They can go play in the CFL or the NFL if they are good enough. I wouldn't have a problem with a modest educational assistance to make sure all educational and living expenses are covered, but the Day the NCAA becomes the NFL is the day I don't give a damn. I think someday we may have the IRS question the 401c3 status of some of the big programs because they do not serve "primarily exempt educational purposes" as required for tax exempt status. (ie merchandise sales etc). The excess money earned should be poured back into the educational funds of the schools to lower the burden on States for education-Note in the articles there was some effort to do exactly that probably to avoid IRS scrutiny or at least offer a defense if the IRS came looking.

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: longhorn networkThey finally discovered TV in that cesspool called Austin.
Re: longhorn network
Great. When they figure that out, sometime in the 23rd century, I'm sure Iowa State will take off like a bat out of heII. Until then UT will say "Take your money and shut up."
Bingo. That is one of the many axes hanging over the heads of college athletics, even profitable ones. Once the governmet takes their share, that will change everything. Paying athletes, I would argue, is one of the possible symbols of making money.
Re: longhorn networkThese players laugh at the NCAA, but wait until the IRS takes them on!
Re: longhorn network
That was really funny. That made me laugh big time.
Re: longhorn networkTexas was smart enough to cut the academic side of the university for 1/2 of the first 3 years of revenue - 25 million.
This way they can keep the academics happy and prevent a brush fire that the athletic department does not benefit the educational purpose of the university. Pretty savy, political move. Pony 81
