I love watching a team short on talent make a system work.........Props to everyone - Doh, coaches, players, ineligible players, hell - even Kiawatkowski, strength coach, trainer......

Can you imagine what we will look like in the coming years if our more talented players keep this overachiever mentality going??????

You get better by playing against better players in practice everyday. It's obvious to see how going against Giles, Vilde, Pats, Smith, & Williams in practice everyday is paying off for this years squad.

PonyDoh would never accuse me of being a Doherty fan. If you asked me to get a mob going to come after him, I probably would supply the clubs and torches.

I think he's a jerk.

And my frustration is that I have seen rotten season after rotten season since 1993 (last NCAA appearance). I call it rotten because too many near misses and too many 15-13 seasons.

My real athletic connection to SMU began in 1987-88 when I first got on campus and watched that team go to the NCAA tournament etc.

So as much as I dislike Doherty, I still want the program to succeed -- even though I have called for seasons to flame out so it would lead to his ouster, which wasn't going to happen anyway -- so I'll get excited when things start to turn and not think twice about it.

Is there a new era for SMU basketball? In years past, that Tulsa 3-point play IS the game-winning play leading to heartbreak once again.

When Nyakundi knocked down the 3, did that signal times were changing?

Well said, PonyDoh and Mitch. The Doh bench ethic still needs polishing, though it has gotten somewhat better over the past couple years. Now that this season is where it is, we need to all be supportive. If anyone is hoping for a flame out at this point, you're an idiot. I care a whole more about the program and the players than I do about the coach. So, regardless of coach's antics, let's get out there to every game and cheer on the 'Stangs!

Who's with me?!!

This is the most excited I have been about the program since Sasser, Hopkins.
The system seems to be in place. The talent in the pipeline is the best it's been in a very long time.
Recruiting looks good for 2012.

LOL. did you see/hear Doh give the game ball to the 'blue' team for making the starters tougher in practice? After a big win, to give the game ball or whatever, to the ineligibles & transfers, says it all

I sure as hell hope so. In the four years that I was at SMU, I could count on both hands the number of times we lost a game in the last minute or a buzzer beater, or crapped out in the last 3 minutes of a game.

It was great to finally see us stick the dagger in someone else's heart.

The question I'd like to ask you PD or Doh himself. If the 'bench/ineligible' guys were on the floor, how good would we be (record-wise). It has been noted that the bench wipes the floor with our current starters. Just curious.

For the first time in all the times I've listened to Doherty on his postgame show -- and I'll admit I haven't listened much in recent times -- his praise of Jeremiah what's-his-name on the last play and using the phrase "that's basketball savvy'' really struck me. I thought I was listening to Rich Little imitating Matt Doherty.

Well, we're 12-8 right now. I'd think we'd have mopped UALR, Riverside & La Tech, at least. Probably would have smoked tis version of Houston at home, as well. That's 16-4 right there w/o even remembering who else we've lost to.

Great game and good job by Doh last night. It appears his team is buying into a system which is good. We have a lot of conference games left. Before we start a slobbering love fest or hate fest lets see how the season plays out. If this team keeps playing hard, they should stay in games and have some wins. There are no gimmes left on our schedule. Any wins have to be earned the hard way by this team.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
