Phillip Miller- Dallas Carter6'2 shooting guard is lighting it up. In addition to the 54 pt game mentioned below, he scored 64 last night & 41 in a game last week.
Carter's Phillip Miller scores 54 points Samuell in non district basketball matchup 02:03 PM CST on Thursday, December 9, 2010 By JORDAN MASON / The Dallas Morning News Don't know if everyone perused the box scores in the paper this morning, but if you did I'm sure the second summary under "Boys" jumped right out at you. Phillip Miller scored 54 points for Carter in a 78-42 win against Samuell. That's right 54. The next highest scorer for either team had 12. Needless to say Miller was the high scorer in his game and in the rest of the area games. The game was Miller's fifth with 30 points or more and topped his season-high of 41. Carter is only 3-4 through seven games but you might want to keep a close eye on the Cowboys as Miller continues this early-season tear. "We have a great bunch of outside shooters. Unfortunately, all our games are played indoors."
Re: Phillip Miller- Dallas CarterSorry but this is some kind of shooting of course.....is Miller a possible recruit for SMU?...is he looking at SMU? what year etc?
Re: Phillip Miller- Dallas CarterMiller put up 41 yesterday on Terrell & UH signee Stiggers (14pts). In his last 5 games Miller has scored
64, 54, 41 x2, & 26. Saw coach Brown @ the Allen tournament this weekend. I'm sure he was focused on Ben Dillard from Frisco. Dillard was very impressive. Dillard can score @ will & his ball handling has really improved from last season. "We have a great bunch of outside shooters. Unfortunately, all our games are played indoors."
Re: Phillip Miller- Dallas Carter
All I can say is he should be a possible recruit for SMU. I'm sure Coach Brown is aware of him. It's great to see Brown @ local games. I've seen him more @ local HS games in the last couple of weeks than I saw anyone from SMU the previous 4 years. BTW, Texashoops has an article on Miller this morning. No mention of SMU. It does mention Mean Green & Coogs. "We have a great bunch of outside shooters. Unfortunately, all our games are played indoors."
Re: Phillip Miller- Dallas Carter
Pure speculation on my part, but what an academic difference: SMU vs. those two centers for higher learning.
Re: Phillip Miller- Dallas Carter
Thanks, and thats good to know that Brown is on it locally....he will reel in some more good ones I will wager! Its all about creating relationships and trust,.... and he makes it work... We could use a great shooter like this kid obviously is...some just have a knack for getting the ball in the net from an early age.
Re: Phillip Miller- Dallas CarterInteresting kid, and I'll defer to Papa on this one, if he says the kid is CUSA ready. What I do know is that point totals like that are sorta fools gold. Every year some kid in the metroplex or elsewhere puts up those types of numbers, but never gets offers. Brandon Jefferson(?) was the same way last year. We looked at Kevin Olekaibe in the Spring last year from Vegas who had like 9 50pt games his senior year, and while talented, Doh and crew thought he was wild, no shot selection, destroyed chemistry & flow etc. Now the kid is at Fresno St playing next to, you guessed it, Bennie Rhodes.
What I will say is this, always take a chance on cerebral shooters, especially if you're running the princeton. I've now seen two UNC Wilmington games this year, and Tanner Milson may end up rookie of the year in that conference. I think he put 22 on George Washington in a win, and then came back and hit 5 3s and 18 pts against Wake Forest in another win. I'm not sure he's not having the most success of any local frosh nationally. Coaches kid, good jumper, that's it. “When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones
Re: Phillip Miller- Dallas Carter
reminds me...I used to read the dead tree version of the DMN. Time flies...because as I read this, I remember reading high school box scores to see how many Ryan Mendez and Glendon Alexander scored.
Re: Phillip Miller- Dallas Carter
everything has changed around hoops from the internet and technology to the softening of the players. When I was w/Reebok 13+ years ago, when AAU teams would come to Vegas for Big Time in the summer, it was an event. At that point, travel squads were new, and the kids truly came to rep their town or region. DC Assault would play vs Pump N Run and it was DC vs LA literally. Now, these kids travel so much, go to camps etc, they have no rivalries, local pride or whatever. Everyone is buddy buddy and angling “When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones

Re: Phillip Miller- Dallas CarterI found a story on his progress this season and his upcoming plans for next year. http://bit.ly/cartersmillersuperstar
Re: Phillip Miller- Dallas CarterIs SMU an option for him? SMU should be all over this kid. A local player that can score. His stats are amazing. These are the type of players SMU needs to recruit.
Re: Phillip Miller- Dallas CarterI don't think so, but they definitely should be. Nothing wrong with local kids staying in town and tearing up C-USA!
