Kids don't read the newspaper anymore and haven't for years. It's all about the internet.

But I will say this: With the ancient Bob Yates running the department, the ability to be current with the times is a challenge that will always face that department. He's too inflexible.

You are missing the point as the written articles hit the Nationwide wire services and search engines and gets the press in general on board. Its hard to get the internet stuff on SMU if no one is writing about them. It starts at the local level and attracts the ESPN's and the others like sharks if there is 'noise' about SMU that hits on all fronts. And yes they read the papers as the HS games and players of the week etc are in the DMN and they all read it to check up on their peers, scores etc. All those kids love to see their pics or press in the papers.

Yup.

PonyScott,
I recognize and agree with what you're saying. What I mean is the DMN won't change until there's changes in the leadership at both the top and the sports top.

Plus, they have to identify their fan base and that's mainly UT and A&M, blah blah blah.

Road CUSA game the week of the super bowl...you know the rest.

We're not on the pecking order until we develop something more consistent. A 3-game winning streak isn't going to do it. It probably won't happen unless we get to 17-8 or something like that.

We have to earn it.

Well they managed to put the Baylor WOMEN's teams game on the front page today with a photo above the crease - during super bowl week - that right - the womens team. From Baylor. NOBODY cares about womens basketball.

If anyone knows who is in charge and can get us an email address lets light them up!

It was very week coverage, but wasn't the football team relegated to the back pages before they started winning? Now they make the front page of the sports page.

I hear you, but I can't recall the DMN ever giving college basketball -- as a whole -- the love it deserves. When Steve Richardson left, it pretty much fell apart.

BS, sir. We're talking about getting only A BOX SCORE for the hometown team for a game in HOUSTON.
