ESPN SB Coverage at Sundance Square

Is anyone else just a little nauseous watching ESPN in Fort Worthless covering the Super Bowl? I don't know, I just keep pondering how it all came to this...Dallas really shot itself in the foot by refusing to work with Jerry to keep the Cowboys and their stadium in Dallas. Instead of showcasing Dallas, Sundance Square and Ft Worth (and all their stupid cattle) are getting the pub (and revenue).

Lots of TCU sweathshirts and flags on TV, too. :twisted:

LSU plays Oregon at Jerry World to start the 2011 season, and I know many who are making the trek are contemplating staying in Ft. Worth due to the proximity to the stadium.

Were the same people in charge of the vision for SMU athletics the same people refusing to work with Jerry to keep the Cowboys in Dallas? The similarities in short-sightedness are remarkable.

Hasn't the NFL Network been broadcasting from Dallas this week along with lots of other media who came to town? National/world media>ESPN. SB XLV will be remembered as the Dallas SB not the Fort Worth SB or the North Texas SB.

ESPN has been in FW all weekend, and ESPN is the place 99% of people turn to get their sports coverage. Constant shots all weekend of FW, Sundance Square, Stockyards, Cows and TCU memorabilia.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say Dallas missed out on a massive amount of revenue this week by choosing to let the stadium go to Arlington and Ft. Worth's backyard. And that will continue to be the case...

Plus, I have had to look at Sundance Square all weekend. :roll:

Don't go all regional.

I hate to break this to you but most people outside of Texas think FW is just a suburb of Dallas.

As far as "all of us outside Texas" know is that the SB is not in FW, not in Arlington, but in DALLAS!

ESPN wanted a place with foot traffic, they looked around Dallas back in 2009 and didn't find anything they liked so they went to Sundance. If we can provide something like that before the SB comes to the region again in 2016 then we can legitimately compete, right now the action is too spread out here. We've got plenty of publicity and revenue from Arlington taxpayers paying for Cowboys Stadium, sure we could have gotten more but we would have had to pay for the thing. Didn't we damn near all of the parties and events anyway? Doesn't everyone think the Super Bowl is in Dallas?

Dallas has failed as a major city not having a focused downtown. Aside from Phoenix, most major sports towns have everything all right there in the d-town area.

Dallas is way too spreadout. Sundance square is perfect.

From what I read, less than 3% of folks in the good ole USA get the NFL network. More than 70% get ESPN.

No doubt ESPN reaches a lot more homes than the NFL Network, but from what I have seen it hasn't made a dent in the perception of where this SB is being held. Fort Worth is great but at best it's just considered a suburb of Dallas if it's even known at all. It was a lock that this would be known as the Dallas SB once the Sheraton got the media center.

Bottom line, Dallas had all the venues needed for the parties and events.
FW had a parking lot for a portable media booth.

I've always been under the impression that one of the big reasons that Cowboys Stadium didn't end up in Dallas was because of the deal the city made with the American Airlines Center. One of the conditions of the AAC deal negotiated by Ron Kirk was that the AAC would get first pick of any event that came into town. Being that Jerry wanted to have concerts and other events other than football games at the stadium, this definitely put a wrench into the whole deal. At least, that's the way I understand it. Personally, I feel that Jerry never had any intention of using Fair Park for the location of his stadium. He just wanted to use it to leverage a better deal out of one of the suburbs.

After you see the square and Billy Bob's, Ft. Worth gets real old in a week. ESPN will never make that mistake again--you can only eat so much barbeque.
