Robert Nyakundi: A total of 24 points in last 4 games

Postby Mitch McConnell » Thu Mar 10, 2011 9:25 am

We've beaten this discussion into submission, but I think he was 11, 2, 6 and 5. Given this team's inability to score the ball, if he's not producing then it makes it tough to win. Hence, the four-game losing streak to end the season.

It was probably an approach by teams to let Papa Dia have his and then go after Nyakundi because of how others have described -- someone who can't create and isn't strong with the ball but is a great spot up shooter.

If you think about it, he fits best on a team when there are 2 or 3 scoring options ahead of him and then he is the assassin on the fast break 3. That's OK. Every team needs one of those. In the final analysis, he's just not a go-to player. And he can fit that role next year if a couple of others step up and score.

So the fact that this group even finished at 17-14 is amazing.

Again, I believe Doherty gets 2011-12 to work with the new blood. If that blows up, then he's gone.

P.S. -- I think the season is over and the athletic department will not pay for CBI or CIT entrance or whatever is required.

P.S. II -- I really hate losing to Rice. Losing to the Owls is like stepping on gum on a sidewalk -- irritating.

But it was refreshing to see a pulse in January and February.

Robert is a one dimensional type player. He's basically a very good j shooter. Leave him open & he will make you pay. Get in his face, he has a difficult time creating his own shot. Robert needs to spend some serious time in the gym this summer working on taking the ball to the hole.
BTW, he had a very good season. With a more talented team surrounding him next season, he should be solid again.

next season, Robert should stand at the corner and let the rest of the team run the O. They won't be able to extend the D on him. Wait for the penetration and kickout and stick the three. There's a role for a Kyle Korver in our O.

Mitch M.,
I wouldn't mind going into one of the lower level tournaments. Like June says, it gives your kids a little more practice time and more experience.
