Re: Recruiting...Locals vs 4starsI wonder if this is where his argument has hit a wall, so we probably won't see a retort. It'll be interesting to see if he comes back with a response...
Re: Recruiting...Locals vs 4stars
Or maybe it was just whiskey talking( and for that we can give him some slack)...but to come on and talk about 'I' said this and I said this BEFORE anyone, just is out of line. A sign of insecurity.
Re: Recruiting...Locals vs 4stars
Alas, that would require him to admit it was the whiskey talking and actually walk back previous comments made. While that would guarantee a measure of leniency, I doubt it's ever happened.

narcissism Definition nar·cis·sism[ nrssə sìzzəm ] NOUN 1. self-admiration: excessive self-admiration and self-centeredness 2. personality disorder: in psychiatry, a personality disorder characterized by the patient's overestimation of his or her own appearance and abilities and an excessive need for admiration. In psychoanalytic theory, emphasis is placed on the element of self-directed sexual desire in the condition. [ Early 19th century. After Narcissus ] When it comes to basketball, I'll go with Hoopmanx. Just get players that can play. An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and

Re: Recruiting...Locals vs 4starsBasically, it doesn't matter what 'stats' stallion throws out, cause the reality is that you need both locals, national & international kids. It fits the model of the school, and it's what every legit private in America does. This isn't football. Evaluation varies, but if you look at the top 20 kids in Texas, every single year, we only have a chance at a handful. Recruiting hoops is so much different than football. You either grab the elite kids, or there is nothing left to build a high mid. For that reason, you need to cast a wide net. In many instances, SMU is perceived more favorably in SoCal or on the east coast, than it is locally. Hopefully that is changing, but you grab the best kids that will come, regardless of location.
Do we really think Richmond, which provides a good model for us, is loading up w/kids from Richmond or even Virginia? Try 2 on the entire roster. http://www.richmondspiders.com/sports/m ... l-mtt.html What about BC? They run a modified Princeton look http://bceagles.cstv.com/sports/m-baskb ... l-mtt.html What about Gonzaga? http://www.gozags.com/sports/m-baskbl/m ... l-mtt.html How about Vanderbilt? http://vucommodores.cstv.com/sports/m-b ... l-mtt.html and St Mary's(notice Paul McCoy)? http://www.smcgaels.com/SportSelect.dbm ... SID=101618 What about Miami? http://hurricanesports.cstv.com/sports/ ... l-mtt.html Pretty much, the only private that lives off locals is Butler. FWIW, we're more balanced than most national privates, which is why this debate is hilarious. Some folks make it like we haven't had Texans in a decade
Re: Recruiting...Locals vs 4starsLook I've proven he's been wrong on his assessment of Texas Basketball talent in comparison to multiple states and metro areas in at least 3 different years-he keeps adding a footnote that-oh I meant DFW not Texas. Now there is a tool on Rivals that proves him wrong. I used 2011 because its the last completed class and it shows that his dated conclusions about Texas and DFW are BS. The same thing is going to hold true for just about any year you want to analyze. I've run the numbers several times for him in the past-he knows it-and he has always been wrong and tries to backpedal. Texas and DFW both produce an abundanmce of talent that compares nationally with just about any area you care to name. Its been that way for about a decade.

Re: Recruiting...Locals vs 4stars
Isn't the question who we can get on the roster? The way I understand Hoopmanx's point is that SMU needs to recruit all around the country and internationally to fill out our roster since even though texas has players, we are not in the hunt for all of them at this time. If Doherty can recruit areas outside Texas better, then so be it. Our great teams of the 80s had plenty of players from outside Dallas. Why limit yourself to just one area? Also, haven't we seen an uptick in our local player with the new recruits and the transfers coming back to the area? An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and

Re: Recruiting...Locals vs 4starsAll things being equal you take a local player. There's no room for disagreement on that point. Otherwise you take the best player available no matter where's he's from. End of story.
