SMU POLICE???

Postby ALEX LIFESON » Sat Mar 19, 2011 5:26 pm

Surprised that they never moved an inch, when chaos was breaking out with those trash bags from Jacksonville at the game. Even more surprised after the game when a couple of their players were going ape-sh!! after the buzzer, and a few of their fans that were on the bleachers behind their bench, were talking trash and booing non stop when Varsity was played. They seem quick to act when our students started chanting during previous games, but for some reason, never moved an inch today. Whats up SMU cops?

Dunno, seemed like a non event to me...Give them some slack...That is a [deleted] way to lose on the road, there was a bit of noise going on, but it never even got close to getting out of control and cooler heads prevailed.

No need at all for the police to get involved.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

Not sure I agree it wasnt close to a problem. There were some bumps in the hand shake line that were asking for trouble. I thought our police should have at least shown they were there.

Better safe than sorry - I thought Jax was looking for a fight, and the way their fans were acting I'm not so sure they wouldn't have been up for it as well...

There sure were, I saw Doherty turn back and talk to one of the Jacksonville kids that either refused to shake his hand or said something to him as he was walking by. It could've gotten really ugly after the game, one of their kids kicked a chair too walking back to the locker room, i'm surprised it wasn't worse

The dude with dreads (who was the one who refused Doh's handshake) also started jawing with a fan as he entered the tunnel. He stopped for a second like he was going to come back out, but then thought better of it.

A few uniforms around would have helped I think.

I don't know what you were looking at shadowman, but the police should have at least stood in front of their fans that were near the floor. If this had turned into something worse, which was very close, SMU would have looked bad for not taking preventative measures.

I just want to say that any hoops season, that end w/a dagger victory at home, and then an almost fight by salty opposing players, is ok w/me

from my vantage point, it was close to erupting. I can tell you i was starting to feel like mixing it up. It only takes one. the cops dang sure should have been on the floor.

I was standing near our band at the end of the game, and it looked like their fans were very close to erupting!

I don't think I've ever called anyone out on here before, but why are you being such an apologist for JU today? You took offense when me and some others called them thugs, and now you're sticking up for their fans and the SMU police. What gives? Just seems a little strange. Nothing personal, so don't read too much into this. Just trying to understand.

Sorry i agree Junior...I have been around Basketball all my life and know when the police should have been around, and they should have been around and the coach of Jacksonville should have pulled out #22 at the end of game as he ran into Dia at the end of game unnecessarily and was obviously out of control. It reminds me of Hoop it Up and the racial stuff that happens against the white players...no class hi jinks. There was no control by the Jacks coaching staff and you could see t was just one shove away from ugliness.

Exactly - one shove during the "handshake" and it was ugly - and I imagine it involves fans...

It was coincidence, but I saw two UP Police SUVs heading towards Moody as I was leaving campus, and I honestly was not going to be surprised if I heard something happened - that's how tenuous the whole thing was.

I was watching the handshake formality, and it was a pot at the boiling point. Their fans behind the bench were trash talking our players and coaches, and the ones higher up in the stands, were jawing back and forth with some of our fans who had heard enough. We were VERY lucky this didn't end up being something much worse.

I could not make the game but I had my run in with the smu police before and they are good for busting students drinking in dorms, not preventing riots. They were probably scared
