Stang Fan's quote is the kind of attitude that creates losing seasons. SF quotes
"The Mustangs need to remember that there is no pressure to win this game. "
This is rediculous...our guys need to know that there is a huge pressure to win this game. This is our arch rival...this is for the iron skillet...this is for bragging rights in the Metroplex...this game is huge and they should know that there is no excuse for losing this game!
Do you think that OU or Texas Fans would say there is no pressure to win this game if one of them had a few poor seasons....Come on Stang Fan...THIS GAME IS FREAKIN' HUGE and our STANGS had better win!!!!

Look a the guy's moniker--he's a fan--by definition a fan's attitude cannot create a losing season or affect a season one way or the other. For example, I assume from your post you had a positive attitude last season, and look where that got us.
Look I am a fan of yours because of what you did for this university. But this guy has a perfectly realistic view of this game. We all hope the ponies will win, but your expectations will betray you if you let them.

That is the problem with so many SMU fans. They don't ever expect to win. How can there not be pressure to win this game? If we don't, the highest paid coach in SMU history will also be the coach who coached SMU to the longest losing streak in school history. While the Tech game did give a glimmer of hope that there is potential on the Hilltop, it was only one game. If SMU goes out and gets drilled by 40 points, suddenly the Tech game really doesn't mean all that much except that it was the 13th consecutive loss. I do believe that Phil Bennett feels that there is pressure to win as another season like last year or even his first year and he might have committed coaching suicide.
If you don't play to win, then why play?

I expect to win, but much more importantly I think the players expect to win. It will take a supreme effort and a few breaks. I think Phillips and Munlin give us enough firepower that if we play as hard and tough as possible, we can win. Last Novembers game showed that its very possible. And neither team is that much different this year.
Given that, I go into the game expecting SMU to win. Its a rivalry game, throw out the records and streaks. If anything, the streaks work for SMU, more hate, bigger motivation.

There's a new attitude with the Mustang team itself this year. I saw it during the entire TT game, both on the field and on the sidelines. The players believe they can win and have the attitude to match it. I saw the players themselves turning around to motivate the fans several times! The players have the winning attitude...now it's up to more than just a few fans, like those of us on this board, to adopt the same attitude. In fact, as I said in an earlier post this year, it's time for SMU to adopt a 'badass attitude' towards each and every opponent this season and from hereon. I go to each SMU game FIRMLY BELIEVING that SMU has a chance to win. The way I look at it, no matter what the prognosticators say, there's a 50-50 chance of winning the game for either team. That's why the game is played!

Damn right you have to be positive and you have to absolutely believe and expect that you will win because if you do not you never will. I just don't understand why some of you people feel that losing is okay and that realism means a loss tomorrow. The Stangs can create there own damn realism and kick the crap out of TCU. I FREAKIN' BELIEVE and I ALWAYS WILL!
And a note on the above metioned note...You can hope in one hand and [deleted] in the other and guess which one will fill up first. There is no hoping anything in College Fotball...FANS!!!!!

A team should never go into a game expecting to lose. That is not what I meant. As a fan I'm not going to the game expecting to lose. That's not being a fan. My point was not to get down on the team if they do end up losing. Last year we lost to UTEP and my personal opinion was that the losses to TECH, OSU, BU, and Nevada caused that loss. The team played like they didn't care because they had a loser image. I don't want the team losing games they should win because they are worried about previous losses. Learning to overcome losses is a huge part of becoming a winner. Now, just for the record I hope they overcome the loss to Tech by getting a win at Amon Carter. But I don't want to see the loss of belief by the team or the fans if we lose today. I had a friend with me at the tech game that got his heart broken after every good play by tech last week to the point where he completely lost hope for that game or the season. I don't want to see that happen to everybody. All I'm saying is let's have a little more backbone this year and stay behind the team. Unfortunately, this message board consists only of people who do stay behind the team. Those that don't, don't bother visiting this board or going to the games. I wish I could post to the fans that give up too easily. Not to you guys. You guys are great. AND I'm very happy to get blasted on that quote. I love the winning attitude. Keep it up!
We must shake the \"snob\" reputation. Bring Dallas back to SMU.

Well its good to see that you are starting to come around to our way of thinking. Everyone must present a can-do winning attitude...especially us die-hard fans. I like to be a realist in most things, but when it comes to playing college ball, I believe taht anything can happen. I believe that somehow and in someway, our Stangs are going to play their asses off and their hearts out and bring us a victory. I JUST HAVE TO BELIEVE!
And as for the New Orleans and San Antonio partying that has been mentioned...Rememeber, what we did there will always stay there once we left there...SHUT YOUR MOUTH!!!!!
Bo has gone crazy again!
