On Thursday Nite I got in late and read Ponyfans-someone had a thread that said Marks, Lewis and Pettway had decommitted-I know I read it but apparently it was immediately erased moments later. I wondered what was up

Losing those 3 would put a big hurt on this recruiting class. Our recruiting is beginning to become worrysome.

If we can't beat SDSU out in head to head recruiting...well we might as well pack it in. Personally, I'm not worried because we've invested so much time and effort in hitting our home talent base hard.

Yeah, I was laying the sarcasm on pretty heavy. We haven't done diddly, and the numbers and stories back it up, regardless of how loudly the lemmings cry.

when you recruit quality guys, you have to expect lots of competition and the kind of competition that won't back away until signing day

At least its Klemm involved. I feel better about our chances of retaining them because as mentioned he has spent a long time developing the relationships as opposed to the common "hey I saw your video yesterday-we want to offer you a scholarship today" scenario with a recruit that "doesn't know much about SMU but knows they used to be good because he saw Pony Excess".

Marks seems to have more deliberately thought through his commitment. For those that have Scout or Rivals-everytime Lewis says he's committed to SMU-there will be a story within a week stating he's a soft commitment looking at other schools and wanting to take all his official visits in the Fall.

We've said it before, the higher you fly, the more people are going to try to shoot you down. We've just forgotten what real recruiting wars are all about.

San Diego State--that's not even the Texas Tech of California in terms of educational quality and given the state of California's budget woes, its not going to improve anytime soon,

This is on the money. Lewis has been saying these things since day one. As this quote came from him, I feel no need to panic at this time. Where Marks goes they all go. If he starts talking like this then I might worry.

Also an excellent example of why a site like Rivals, or Scout, is both beneficial to SMU's efforts and an important piece of the larger puzzle.

Absolutely true! They each have had their benefited SMU in their own way, but especially to impress our recruits.
