Monday (8/15/11) AFTERNOON practice report

Postby PonyPride » Mon Aug 15, 2011 3:38 pm

Again, posting live updates is prohibited. But I'll have some kind of a report as soon as practice is over (5-ish).

• More than 50 players out on the field for the special teams part of the afternoon practice session. Linemen and quarterbacks are inside lifting, doing agility work, etc.

• Workout starting with kickoff coverage drill. No "live" kicks yet. Kickoff return job clearly remains undecided, as numerous candidates have taken a crack at it in the first days of camp.

• Injured LB Cameron Rogers doing 100-yard sprints, and looks like he's running well. Not claiming to be a doctor here, but it looks encouraging.

• WR Steve McCormack is supposed to get the stitches in his hand removed Tuesday. But in order to satisfy MiracleOnMockingbird's obsession, it should be noted that McCormack is catching passes from the JUGS machine. You're welcome.

• Kickoff drills include the return guy against 11 coverages ... with no blockers. Obviously the drill is designed to allow special teams coach Frank Gansz, Jr. to make sure players stay in their proper lanes, etc. But in the understatement of the year, the return guys aren't getting too far with 11 opposing players flying at them.

• Special teams over ... offense and defense walking through tutorial sessions at each end of the field. They're not really moving around — mostly just listening to coaches — but
Chris Parks is back out on the field, at least walking through plays.

• McCormack is running routes and catching passes with the WRs.

And .... we're done.

PonyPride, these reports show that you are tireless and always right on target.

Much like a JUGS machine.

I think at some point Richardson might get an opportunity on returns.

Who was returning kicks at the end of last season? Crawford?
At that point I was just happy they caught the kick or punt.

Did Loftus kick today?
