Re: PTI: 1st topicI've got to think that the situation is different because for SMU, there was no precedent. No football team had ever been taken away completely for an entire year. SMU was willing and able to think "surely they'll NEVER actually shut us down, we've had penalties before and always survived those."
Miami (who was probably giving out just as much money as SMU in the 80's) has the position of knowing that the NCAA has actually taken away an entire season from a school, yet still cheating anyways. To me, that is just Miami spitting on the rulebook, but I know others see it differently. The problem is that the SMU death penalty served as a notice to other schools that the NCAA wasn't messing around, but at the same time, everyone pretty much knows there's no way they'd actually hand it out again because of the results (even if they were mostly school-imposed). I feel we will always be the lone victims of the DP. The reasoning will always be "well at SMU, they were corrupt within the school administration". As long as any other school admin can turn a blind eye to the cheating, they can never be accused of the same thing. Even if they handed out $10 million and gave BMW's to every player on the team, as long as it's a "rogue booster" signing the checks, the schools will never be compared to SMU. Re: PTI: 1st topicIs Miami currently on probation?

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
Re: PTI: 1st topici have no idea why Miami's administration is getting a pass here, or the benefit of the doubt....the idea that they didn't know what he was doing is ridiculous and far fetched and there is no way they should be held to any other standard than the players
the adults fault this happened, not the kids. "There ain't nothing you can't solve with one more beer"

no "There ain't nothing you can't solve with one more beer"
Re: PTI: 1st topicNope. No, no.
The U should not get the DP. Nobody should. And with this scandal, bye bye NCAA. They've got no teeth. And there is no reason these kids should be paid something. And why I say that? I mean pay 'em at least what the kid working in the bookstore gets paid. Or the student in the ticket office selling tickets to these games. AT LEAST that. ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
Re: PTI: 1st topicTeams should be paying US for letting them get away with cheating. Maybe Pye was on the take. I bet any other university (with history) could come back within 4-8 years. But since we killed ourself after the DP, people think that over two decades is how long it should take to recover.
You're welcome big mighty bcs schools.
Re: PTI: 1st topicwhat happens to the ACC if they give The U the death penalty? FSU, Clemson and Va Tech will be hiking up their skirts to the SEC and all hades will break loose. I'm expecting some scholarships lost but not much more.
Re: PTI: 1st topic
Well, the other schools would have to let them in first. Not sure Florida would be OK with FSU getting in. Plus, VaTech or FSU is pretty much guaranteed the ACC auto bid w/Miami out of the picture. ![]()
