Orsini on ESPN BlogModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Orsini on ESPN BlogI consider MYF as in the Friend category-I consider giving a bunch of elementary school kids with no affiliation with SMU to be largely a poor investment of resources with the sole positive being that it hides just how bad our support is. Won't have a TCU, Baylor, A&M, OSU or Tech on the schedule to hide that fact this year and its going to going to really show this year. The numbers are going to fall

Re: Orsini on ESPN Blogwhat about local hs football teams and coaches? That's what i'd like to see, not really for recruiting (although there may be an upshot because of the exposure), but for butts in the seats who would be loud and excited to watch some football. Seems we could get with the coaches or AD's at local schools and come up with something.

Re: Orsini on ESPN BlogI think that is expressly prohibited by NCAA rules. Has to be availiable broadly. Anyone older than 9th grade is considered a recruitable athlete.

Re: Orsini on ESPN BlogIt doesn't help that SMU has done nothing to overcome the snobby rich-kid persona. If your household income is under $200k you aren't going to consider going to a game unless someone you know has invited you.
We have had a top shelf soccer team for years sitting in the middle of a huge population of soccer-loving mexicans and we do nothing to exploit it. We should be filling tiny Wescott with said people take as much money as possible from them with tickets, nacho cart, etc. and creating a market. There's a sport with high popularity, and a huge population of people who love the sport but have no college team affiliation. Why are we not exploiting them? The same can be said for bball and football. Where's the SMU bball billboard in pleasant grove appropriately designed for those consumers? "I think Couchem is right."

Re: Orsini on ESPN Blog
Exploit the Mexicans!! Fabulous idea.
Re: Orsini on ESPN Blog
Good point...in that case, local middle school 7th and 8th grade teams or any sport for that matter.
Re: Orsini on ESPN Blog
Not me unfortunately. It's a shame because I would be happy to get tickets and pass them to non-SMU friends on days I know I can't make the game.
Re: Orsini on ESPN Blog
Are you a full time student? If so, then it is part of the athletic fee. You have to go pick them up from the ticket off the week of the game. They don't ship them to you. The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
Re: Orsini on ESPN Blog
I agree. We have no regional or fan based interests in Marshall or ECU. They have few alums in the Dallas area, we share no regional interests, we have no rivalry, neither school is well known in Texas ( and visa versa) and the result is little fan interest in these 2 games. If those games were OSU or Baylor the stadium would be full.
