While the student getting injured is tragic, I hope he doesn't do something stupid like sue. It wouldn't surprise me.......but if he tries to sue - any injuries he got he deserves. The way I see it, if you choose to go down there and brave the security and tear down a giant pillar of steel then you have to accept what happens to you. It didn't go down suddenly - he should have moved. He failed to do so, or could not do so. Either way, it happened. It's bad. He seems to have been seriously injured. That's unfortunate. But it was his choice risk it, and must now take responsibility for his own actions.
Hopefully, we'll get practice at how to tear down goalposts better as we win bigger and bigger games in the future.
Re:
You're kidding, right? Of course not.
Re:
Unfortunately, in an age where people can sue because they spill hot coffee on their hand from a drive-thru, I am not kidding.
Has there been a precedent set before that I'm not aware of? He could sue if it was in his best interest.
I don't know about the prescedent in this case being set somewhere before, but if he does threaten suit, the school can slap him with a tresspass charge.
a situation occured last year when Mizzou beat Nebraska and the students stormed on to the field. one of the students taunted a husker player and got punched in the face. He filed suit, but withdrew when his own school threatened him with felony tresspass. Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Actually, he wasn't a student at Missou when that went down. That is why they were going to slap him with the trepassing charge.
Re:This is my first post here, and I would like to start by introducing myself. My name is Jason Arnold. I am a freshman (or a first-year if you want to be politically correct). I am one of the Mustang 11, and I am in LOVE with SMU. If you look at the slideshow, I am the red-painted fan, that is being pulled of the goal post by a police officer.
Now to my business.
There is absolutely no way the officers did not know that the posts were going to come down. We were chanting "Goal Post!" for goodness sake! Shortly after the chanting began (with about 1:35 left on the clock) the number of police tripled. When time was out there were about 20 - 25 gaurding the North post. I know this, because I got lit up by one as I tried to get to the post.
There were only about 4 cops on the south side of the field!!! That is why we decided to make an 85 yard sprint to reach the goal post!! Secondly, the cops were on the ends of the field where the posts are (or were, ![]()
This satement is TOTALLY and utterly false! The left upright is what hit the kid, and it did in fact come down ridiculously fast. I was looking at him when it happened, probaly no more than 4 feet away. And as for Garrett, the student that was injured, he is still in ICU, but he is concious and completely responsive. He has a skull fracture. but no brain damage. He is allowed visitors and should be out soon. As for the game, I had a blast, and look foward to many more victories at my time at SMU!! GO 'STANGS!! ![]() CLASS OF '08!!!
I'm glad you had a good time, JSArnold. I enjoyed the game, too.
But let's not lay any blame at or near any of the feet of the Security and/or Police Officers. They allowed a celebration that is not uncommon at a collegiate game. Unfortunately, a terrible accident occurred. Sometimes bad things happen to good people. I continue to hope & pray that the young man is okay.
Re:
I am not at all trying to place blame on ANYONE. What happened was an accident, that was somewhat unavoidable. If the cops tried to keep us off the field, more people would have gotten hurt..... CLASS OF '08!!!
Re:
-------- I'm glad we agree, JS. AND-- You will see a lot more more "W's" between now & when you graduate in '08 (U DO plan to get on on time, right Arnold)!!!!!!
Re:
The more W's the better! I have faith in my Ponies! (I am actually trying to finish by '07! ![]() CLASS OF '08!!!
