McJunkin unsure of returnSenior center Blake McJunkin, who left Saturday's game at Texas A&M with an ankle injury early in the second quarter, said is still experiencing some discomfort and does not yet know when he will return to the field.
The injury, diagnosed as a high ankle sprain, occurred when another player rolled into his leg. "Someone rolled up on me," McJunkin said. "I was blocking for an outside zone play, and a guy tried to tackle Zach (Line). That's when someone got me. "It was really bothering me. It was one of those deals where you don't know what hit you. I tried to stand up and put some pressure on it as I went off the field, but yeah, it hurt. I have sprained my other ankle a couple of times before, so you always worry about a spiral fracture or something like that, but it doesn't look like that's what happened here." The Fox Sports sideline reporter said during the television broadcast of the game that McJunkin appeared to be lobbying to get back into the game. McJunkin said steps were taken to try to allow that, but it was clear he should not return. "I'm not sure where Jim Knox got that information," McJunkin said. "They injected me with some stuff that at least allowed me to get down in my stance to snap the ball, but my effectiveness would have been limited. "But I hate to miss any time for any reason, so I'm looking to get back in there as soon as I can." McJunkin said his return to the field will be determined largely by factors other than the amount of pain he feels in the ankle. "I have to get some stability and functionality back in it before I could play," he said. "I'm a pretty tough guy, so I can play with pain. But to block effectively, you have got to be able to get down in your stance and be somewhat explosive at the snap of the ball. "I'm going to listen to the (medical) professionals. They know they are going to have my full effort to do whatever I have to do to get better. I'll be in (the training room) three or four times a day for treatment — they use ice, 'stim' (electric stimulation), they have some kind of a magnet, they use a laser ... they have a lot of different things they can do to try to promote the healing process. I'm going to do all of them if they tell me I need to." Senior Bryce Tennison took over when McJunkin went out of the game. Tennison worked with the Mustangs' first-team offensive line Tuesday in practice; true freshman Taylor Lasecki worked with the second team. Re: McJunkin unsure of returnHate that he was injured. Insult to injury losing a top notch lineman as well as getting a big time whuppin'.
Re: McJunkin unsure of returnNot sure what Knox was smoking... Did anyone else find his comments rather odd? Like the part where he was standing in front of an almost empty bench (one guy was sitting on it) talking about how exhausted our D-line was.
I'm sure our line wasn't standing around chatting about their conditioning, so how the hell would he know? Clearly they weren't so exhausted that they had to sit down, because evidently they weren't. Just sayin'. "It's a couple hundred million dollars. I'm not losing sleep over it." -- David Miller
Re: McJunkin unsure of returnBy and large I thought the broadcast was excellent and the announcers were well informed. But I agree, some of that sideline stuff was questionable.
![]() Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
Re: McJunkin unsure of returnDavid Oliver had my son running in sand pits to strengthen his ankles; it worked to no more injuries. But it can happen anytime.
Junk is getting better to no bad snaps.
Re: McJunkin unsure of returnI was impressed with Junk's snapping at A&M. While I was unaware of his hand injury last season, it was pretty apparent he has put some work into improving. In this case, perhaps competition has made him a better player. We would hope for as much with our quarterbacks.
Re: McJunkin unsure of returnTrue FR backup all of a sudden; that's a concern
Re: McJunkin unsure of returnHope he gets back soon. Was having a great game til the injury.
Derail the Frogs!
Re: McJunkin unsure of returnHey Junk- get well soon.
GO PONIES!!!
Re: McJunkin unsure of returnHope he heals up quickly and that Bryce is ready to go. Nice to have a senior to step in.
Really thought the sideline guy was nuts/ totally in the bag for A&M/ was pretty bold saying some of the things he was saying around frustrated 285lb dudes. [img]http://xs206.xs.to/xs206/06381/flamingfrog.jpg[img]
Re: McJunkin unsure of returnHowdy Mustang Fans,
I do not know if this has been posted yet or not but since you guys were talking about Blake, I thought I would post a link in hopes that word spreads on what a great player Blake is. It appears that Blake showed a great deal of sportsmanship during a play that involved one of our players losing their helmets. Blake appears to protect our player's exposed head after the play was over. Won't go into details but you can see the appreciation of my Aggie brethren here. BTW.....for those that don't know....any time you see "Good Bull", it is one of the highest forms of compliment from the Aggie faithful. http://texags.com/main/forum.reply.asp?topic_id=1908243&forum_id=5

Re: McJunkin unsure of returnAnother note I just found on TexAgs.com:
Blake, You’re a pretty popular guy in College Station at the moment…. My name is (3rd Platoon), and I’m (an SMU fan). I’m also an Aggie, so yes, I was at the game on Sunday watching my two favorite teams go head-to-head. Lots of Aggies have been watching the replay of the game and a very simple act of good sportsmanship on your part has been noticed by hundreds and hundreds of Aggie fans. When Trent Hunter (#1 for A&M) intercepted a pass, he lost his helmet when he was brought down after the return. In the video, you appear to be covering Trent’s helmet-less head from exposure. In a day and age where so much is wrong with college athletics, it’s good to see that good sportsmanship still exists. I know that you hurt your ankle later in the game, so I hope all goes well with your recovery and that you get back on the field soon. You’ve made tons of fans out of countless Aggies who witnessed a very, very simple, but solid gesture in good sportsmanship. There are so many Aggies that have expressed gratitude and appreciation on various A&M message boards and what not, and we all wish you a speedy recovery and that you have a terrific season overall. I know the game’s outcome didn’t turn out how you would’ve liked, but I just thought you ought to know that you have some new fans in Aggieland. Below is a link to the game’s highlights, and your act comes into plain view at the 47 second mark of the video. I thought you could use the pick-me-up. God Bless! http://www.kbtx.com/video/?autoStart=tr ... Id=6224219 Gig ‘Em, Ags, and Pony Up!
Re: McJunkin unsure of returnAnd another:
Blake.......you are a great player & great representative of your team and university. Very classy & sportsmanlike gesture/action you made to protect Trent Hunter. I wish you a speedy recovery!
