Rumors are flying that a news conference will be called later today to announce his dismissal as head coach of the Teasips. I doubt it will happen, though.

Also...funny survey on the site asks:

Which will happen first?

a) UT beating OU
b) U.S. troops returning from Iraq?

b) currently leads in the survey 590 votes to 79.

JJ = UT beating Stoops

I doubt they will fire Mack "OU" Brown unless they already have an agreement from Spurrier or Jimmy Johnson.

This may sound crazy, but I think Jimmy Johnson could be talked into taking the UT job.

Jimmy Johnson is like Bill Parcells, he has it in his blood.

When you see Jimmy on TV you can just tell he misses the game.

Jimmy didn't like the way his career "ended" at the Miami Dolphins.

What better way to finish a career than at one of the most premier schools in America where Jimmy would almost be guaranteed huge success.

Jimmy is a native Texan, even though he went to Ark, he still does not like Broyles over a past disagreement, UT would be perfect.

Plus Jimmy is hugely popular in Texas already because of his Dallas Cowboy connection.

Can you imagine a recruit's parents when Jimmy Johnson paid a visit? Jimmy could show the recruit BOTH a National Championship Ring and 2 Super Bowl Rings!

Would Adrian Peterson be at UT right now if Jimmy Johnson had been the one visiting and calling instead of Mack Brown?

Biggest budget, easy to recruit, big loyal fan base.

The problem is Jimmy would want "full & complete" control.

Deloss Dodds wouldn't like that, but whats more important Texas being on top or DeLoss Dodd's ego?

If Texas had any sense they should decide "we will quietly approach Jimmy Johnson and do whatever it takes to get him to Austin".

Of course the Short Horns aren't that bold....Deloss Dodds would rather have someone he can control.

Jimmy still likes the spotlight, I bet he would do it if Texas decided it was not going to take "no" for an answer.

I hope the Short Horns keep Mack "OU" Brown!

Not so fast, my friends!

Mack Brown isn't going anywhere. Not because DeLoss Dodds likes him, which he does, but because Tom Hicks and the big-money donors of his ilk like him. At a school with an operating budget like the one at UT, if the guys who foot the bill are happy, rocking the boat isn't likely.

And do you really think DeLoss Dodds controls Mack Brown? I think they get along well - I know they get along well - but if push came to shove, you really think DD would win a power struggle in Austin? I don't. Despite the fact that he gets whacked by the Sooners every year, I get the sense that Mack Brown is just about the godfather of Austin.

Keep Mack Brown in Austin. That way when the Mustangs schedule a game with the Teasips in 2010, we can kick their butts!

Knife the Mack or is it Mack the Knife?

Postby Sam I Am » Tue Oct 12, 2004 10:26 pm

Mack Brown has the misfortune of being in the same division of the Big 12 as OU and Stoops. Brown has one of the top winning records in the NCAA since 2000. He's not going anywhere. Just as he made a good change in the defensive coaching staff, he just needs to hire a good QB coach and all will be well. Such a coach will quickly change Vince Young to a running back or tall receiver. SMU should have such problems.

Fox Sports - MSN speculates Steve Spurrier as the front-runner to replace Mack Brown at UT.

Mack isn't going anywhere. I read over the summer that the Longhorns are the most profitable D1 football in the NCAA. numbers like that don't get coaches fired. bottom line is that as long as they are making more $ than anyone else, they aren't going to change the guy at the top.

Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
