I think it all has to come down to how you define a "good season". I'll give you 6 "good seasons". The ones you won conference championships. That includes the 8-4 season in 1999 and tie for the championship. But you define it as you will.
Great---then we can wipe out your last two years since you didn't win a conference championship!? So goodbye hawaii bowl and please tell the team that they didn't have a good season--they will love you for it.

1983 Cotton Bowl wrote:Some quotes from GP on the Star-Telegram page now. Slightly different than what's being reported here, but the flavor is basically the same. The quotes printed in the Star Telegram are a little more on the whiney side and a little less overtly hostile than what I've seen here.
Either GP is: (1) a raving loose cannon; or (2) he knows what he's doing. I'm inclined to think that GP wouldn't have accomplished everything he has at TCU if he was the former. So I assume he knows what he's doing.
I can't say I've followed GP's press conferences with regularity, but my guess is that its not his usual practice to directly respond to comments made by 20-year-old kids (Darius Johnson). My assumption is that he's motivating his guys because he knows Darius will be out there for next year's game.
If Patterson is whining about a 20 yr olds comment than he is a bigger B*tch than I thought

Go suk a dik tcu...
We have had one losing season since 1998--that's longer than 5 years little man.
Little man ya, we also beat tcu something like 24 out of 26 years until we got the death penalty. tcu has been good for the past several years and honestly, I respect what they have done. However, contrary to most of your beliefs, tcu did not invent football.
Many of those years you did pay players. So congrats on the cheating and getting hammered for that effort. The bottom line is all of you would trade your testicles to be in TCU's position--back to back BCS bowls, Rose Bowl champions, top 10 finishes, top 5 finishes. All of which smu isn't getting anytime soon. Glad the rivalry is back on--gives my smu grad dad something to talk about besides soccer.

Good as in "one of the most successful teams in the nation" good. Not just a winning season.
Most of the seasons we ended up in the top 25, top 10 and top 5.

All true (other than the testicles part). You still lost on Saturday.

Pony_Law wrote:I've had respect for what GP has accomplished in building that team. This however was completely classless. It seems interesting that this is what he decided to saya few days after the loss. When you compare it to what he said in his post-game conference this smacks of trying to do something to boost his team and Alumni (who about 90% it seem seem to love this) moral i doubt he even believes it.
I expect that's true, but it's pretty small of him (how ironic) to pander to his alumni like that. DiamondM wrote:What perceived insult from June does Patterson think he's responding to? Nothing I read in the paper on Sunday or yesterday personally attacked Patterson or TCU -- he just said he thought we deserved their ranking because we came into their house and beat them on their turf.
What other quotes could Patterson be referring to? If anything, I've always thought June was too complimentary of TCU, and it certainly isn't his style to go bad mouthing any particular coach or team.
Exactly what I was thinking. Even in his first year at SMU, JJ has been extraordinarily complimentary of Patterson and the job he has done at Froggy High. (Not sure why ... I always thought Patterson inherited a very talented team that allowed him to get a headstart while playing a schedule of largely crappy opponents.) ericdickerson4life wrote:He should be passionate about how his team came out to play on Saturday and not on officials.
I don't think it's letting out any secret information from our coaching luncheon to quote Tom Mason, who said (paraphrasing), "I don't worry about officials, because I have never seen one change a call." Mason has the right approach. Patterson is obsessing about something he can not change. PerunaPunch wrote:Seriously... However they had blocking Taylor Thompson looked sort of like Taylor's backpack by the way he was hanging suspended from Taylor's neck. Just sayin'.
Good point. It looked like Taylor Thompson was tackled more than Darius Thompson was... ya wrote:Many of those years you did pay players. So congrats on the cheating and getting hammered for that effort.
So did TCU ... but ours at least won games when we did. EVERYONE was paying players then. So back to Patterson ... what really strikes me here is that he seems to have forgotten one of the first staples of coachspeak: after a game — ESPECIALLY A DISAPPOINTING LOSS — you utter something about how "we're going to watch the tape, evaluate it and learn from it, and then move on to our next game against (opponent who instantly gets portrayed as an NFL-caliber team)." I can't think of a single coach in the country who cries about an opponent (regardless of the game) three days after a game ... or, to look at it from TCU's perspective, four days before San Diego State. If you're a Frog fan (well, if you're a Frog fan, I feel sorry for you ... but I digress), it's all good and well that you support your coach in his effort to say "we're not going to put up with mean ol' SMU anymore," or whatever his agenda here is. But wouldn't you prefer his message to be something along the lines of "sure, we're disappointed that we lost, and we hope to beat SMU next year, but we have a lot of football to play between now and then and we're going to do X, Y and Z to try to play better and hopefully beat a very good San Diego State team this Saturday"? I know that's what I'd want to hear from my coach.

Their recruits are still compensated don't kid yourself. Check the DB from Jay HS down here who is playing for them now and what he drives and how he even got admitted in the first place, or who covered the medical bills for their DE Hughes when he had "medical" issues a few years ago. Anyway, that is not the point. The point is a grown man who is the head coach of a very good football team should not act like this, insult college players (including his own--check the post game when he said his mother could've knocked the ball away that his DB didn't), referees, etc. Especially when the facts and tape show equally bad calls not made for SMU (i.e. the punch throw that even the TV guys recognized). He should act better than this. If tables were reversed and SMU's coach was acting like this the TCU people would be saying the same things we are.

He had trouble responding to both parts of your statement. Is anyone really a "student" at TCU?
