Womp womp. Dreaming about this is better than than the reality that we're consigned to playing folks like UAB, UTEP, and Tulane every year. I think we have a better chance with the BE than we ever did with the B12. I think from a recruitment point of view this could be great for us if it actually came to fruition. That said, I don't think we're front of the line and I don't think that we should count on the Froggies helping us in, either.

The Big East fans on NCAAbbs are taking the report very seriously as apparently the Boston Globe writer is one of the most connected journalists (to the Big East) in the country. So forgive me if I think the article may be a bit more credible than ericdickerson4life.
Also, Comet, TCU staying in the Big East gives them reason to take SMU (travel partner for the Frogs). That's pretty much why we're being considered. If TCU leaves the Big East that conference might as well just take Houston instead of SMU.

that Sports writer used to be the College Football chief writer for either DMN or Dallas Times Herald-so he has some Dallas contacts too

You're definitely very right, my post was somewhat sardonic and not really genuine. Sarcasm doesn't read well on the internet :p I really do hope we get into the BE, and the reason I'm optimistic is for the same reasons you've stated. The BE fans seem to take this report as fact more than speculation (unlike the plethora of reports we've seen so far). I'm hopeful, and I actually think the Big XII will get to 10 teams and the SEC sit on 13 for a while longer (probably trying to pry away VT, FSU, or Clemson from the ACC). This means that the BE might do well if it gets SMU, UCF, and some of the academies. Here's hoping!

I think Fatterson ranting about us helps our cause, as the rivalry intensifies and gets more pub like this ESPN article http://espn.go.com/dallas/ncf/story/_/i ... angs-againI think the appeal of having this as one of the big conference match ups year in and year out for the Big East is enticing.

The Big East could care less about what TCU wants. The Big East is upset with TCU in a New Jersey way. Ever since the whole recent conference realignment thing, TCU has shown no real public support for Big East stability. They had an opportunity to say something, and blew it, in hopes for greener pastures that aren't coming. They are taking us because they believe that TCU is trying to go to the Big 12. The last thing I heard, is TCU was blackballed to join the Big 12 for academic reasons. Apparently, they don't want another community college.
I really hope SMU stays committed to Football. TCU has maxed out. The ceiling for SMU is just so much higher given we're in dallas. There is just only so much you can do in a city like Ft. Worth.
Also, I noticed on wikipedia SMU beat TCU in strait games starting in the late 60's through the DP. haha

Better location, academics, facilities, alumni, women, ect....
Why open the door to a team that will eventually put you in your place.... exactly. there is no upside for tcu to have SMU in same conference, other than the very overrated 'traveling partner' aspect which i doubt they care about. we will still play each other regardless (and that IS good for them despite what they might say and is certainly good for us) and that's about all out of us they want. to put us on equal footing conference-wise after they've done all the work is BAD for tcu. UH is much less threatening. the question will be whether or not tcu has the stroke to blackball us from BE, and even that has a risk. if they say to the BE "we're not coming if you add SMU" and that requires a firm commitment from them to stick with their BE decision (which I think it would), then their chance at the Big XII (which i think is very high for them) goes out the window and guess who might (not likely, but might) be there to take that place? none of this SMU talk is good for the polywogs. their best hope is to either hope they get a Big XII invitation, likelihood strenghtened if Mizzou bails, or that the BE opts not to include SMU for its own reasons and CUSA is depleted by losing UH, ECU, UCF or whoever else.
Travel partner is not about tcu traveling, it's about the 15 other basketball/non rev sports schools making a Thur nite trip to ft worth and turning around and flying back to conn. They'd rather play Thur at tcu and sat at smu and then bolt.

Just wondering, what about SMU being in Dallas makes our potential so much better? If anything, I'd always argue the other way around - it's those universities in fringe locations that get incredible support from the community. Universities from NYC, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Miami, etc don't do all that well compared to those in Austin, Ann Arbor, Lubbock, Norman, Madison, Lincoln, etc.
