Having left again at halftime...

Postby Mexmustang » Sat Oct 16, 2004 8:14 pm

along with most "die-hard" alumns. It is time to be honest, Bennett and Copeland must go!

I know of no other profession that would have tolerated this level of performance, by a subordinate and his manager.

If Bennett's patience with his quarterback was the same as the alumns for him, he would have been dismissed at halftime of the Navy game. Just look at the paths these two schools have taken since.

As far as our faculty members that are against football--please find another job. I honestly can't identify a distinguished member our faculty that does not realize the need for diversity and school spirit and pride that a winning program contributes. If you can't translate hours at Nortwestern into hours at SMU, please go, your simply stupid, I don't want you teaching our young people. If you don't understand that there are two other constituants out there--the students and the alumns, please go. If you don't want to be part of SMU's traditions I sure you will be happier at another school. But, my bet is that you are part the small group of faculty that went to a directional state school as an undergraduate, and at 18 couldn't qualify at a major university or meet the very standards you expect an athlete, who "works" for the university, probably for longer hours that you do in your smug little office intimidating 18-20 year olds. Please leave! I am sure that you can find a school that will accept your sense of idealism and exclusivity and intellectual mediocrity.

Half time was enough for me too

I can only stand so much pain at one time. Besides the first half lasted two hours and felt like a full game.

Why did you leave at halftime? This is a rebuilding situation. Our team is very young and raw....Phil needs some time to reorganize, regroup, and retool....patience, please. These young kids need our support, now more than ever...we all must stand up strong and (do I sound like Mr.Mustang47 yet??) show our pony ears proud........MexMustang, I agree, Phil seems pretty over matched / weak. As for your "faculty ramble", not sure they are the reason for our continued 1-10, 3-8 efforts..not so sure a couple of "recruits we really need, but who can't pre qaulify, etc., etc" is going to turn a 2-8 into an 8-2. Long Live Brian O'Meara.

I left before I embarrassed myself. Last week in Houston, I got up yelled for Bennett to resign and left...and left alot of fellow alumns wondering who that "nut" could be! I can only take so much of our "snake-oil" salesman.

Mex, I know feelings are running strong, but Bennett obviously faced a huge job when he came in. He needs to be a salesman. Lay off the guy a bit.

Hoop, I can't tell you how much I hope your right and I'm proven wrong, but after TCU, Rice and last night its difficult to see improvement and continue to be patient. Also, it appears some of our upper classman aren't playing up to last year--that's coaching.

Rossley, Cavan, Bennet. What is the common denominator? = Copeland

Rossley looks better now

Postby Sam I Am » Mon Oct 18, 2004 8:45 am

Even though Rossley ran an offense on the cheap and couldn't get the tough yards close to the goal line, at least we were competing in the SWC. Cavan couldn't coach QB's and down we went in the WAC. Bennett doesn't seem to be able to coach defense these days, and that is shocking. If Copeland is the common denominator for hiring these kind of coaches, then someone will have to step up and pay the big bucks to get a name coach who has been a proven winner like TCU did when they hired away Francione from UNM. The only way to dispel the doubts about whether it is the school or the coach is to bring in someone who unmistakenly is a good coach. If he loses, then shut the doors because the school is never going to learn. :?

Well said MexMustang. You took the words right out of my mouth. It is an outright embarrassment to watch what has gone on with the football team. How much longer can the sympathizers (who are part of the problem) keep preaching "be patient...be patient...it is a rebuilding year?" Look at UTEP, Tulsa, and North Texas. They have put some wins together and we cannot? Our talent level is so far below those lower level teams it is not even funny. The policies at SMU have ruined any chance of SMU competing in football. Many alumni have already stopped going to games. You should be applauded for staying for even one half.

This team is uncompetitive, unentertaining and unwatchable. Congrats on making it until halftime, you outlasted me. At least I had my ticket torn for attendance purposes--hope I can bring myself to make it in the stadium for the rest of the season.

BTW, anyone who believes the 13k "official" attendance is crazy. Thank goodness hoops season is almost here.

Bergermeister--I hope your just frustrated, like most of us are. But, asking someone to leave the program because they care, they are frustrated and criticize the coach and athletic director is worse than any criticism I could level at the situation. Too many supporters have all ready given up! Quite frankly, we are building an ever widening gap in our support. Do you realize that alumns (as students) that saw SMU in a bowl are now over 40 years old, those that saw Mike White and Jerry Levias over 60 years and for almost twenty years not one ex-student, in classes '85 or later has seen SMU in any type of bowl or in competition for a championship.

I am frustrated by losses that appear worse than prior years. I am frustrated that we no longer have a running game. I am frustrated that our secondary looks confused. I am frustrated our special teams has repeated breakdowns. But, I am perticularily frustrated that our few upper classmen are not providing leadership nor playing up to the level of last year.

Copeland didn't hire Rossley, but he DID fire him for strike one.
