I saw it on a facebook status and on twitter, so I don't know any more than that unfortunately.
Interesting...

Former 5 Star recruit right? Many highly recruited big name high school athletes either can't find playing time at their big time BCS schools, or struggle. If you get the chance to get one of these kids, you roll the dice. GJ Kinne couldn't find playing time at UT, and he's doing just fine at Tulsa. Shawnbrey struggled/couldn't get on the field at The U, and all he did was help us get to and win the Hawaii Bowl. I know he struggled at UT, and worst case scenario, he's not good enough to get on the field here if we recruit him, but you gotta take that chance. There's a good chance he couldn't cut it at UT, but could star at SMU against lesser competition.CoxMustangFan wrote:Some of you smart guys will have to explain this one to me.
I think the thought is that he has 2 yrs remaining, assuming that he will gain an extra year for medical hardship (or, whatever the proper term is).CoxMustangFan wrote:Thanks, nothing against Gilbert but I don't don't understand the attraction of a one-year guy.
Stallion seems to think he'd have just 1 year of eligibility left, I guess we'll have to see...cutter wrote:I think the thought is that he has 2 yrs remaining, assuming that he will gain an extra year for medical hardship (or, whatever the proper term is).CoxMustangFan wrote:Thanks, nothing against Gilbert but I don't don't understand the attraction of a one-year guy.
I think everyone is assuming that he will get it. but, I see on another thread that stallion is saying that he isn't eligible to take a regular redshirt year. I can't find any guidelines that would substantiate that. but, I figure the coaches have to know. they wouldn't waste a spot unless they really only want him for one year, which I can't see.
Texas QB Garrett Gilbert Headed to SMU?
The Garrett Gilbert rumor mill is in full swing after the Texas quarterback was spotted at SMU practice on Wednesday morning.
A former Gatorade National Football Player of the Year in high school, Gilbert hasn’t panned out in Austin. He was benched in favor of David Ash and Case McCoy after a woeful start to the 2011 season. Now out for the season with a shoulder injury, Gilbert could be eligible for a medical redshirt, meaning he would have two years of eligibility remaining to play for the Mustangs, starting in 2013, if he transferred there.
If Gilbert ends up playing for June Jones, he will try and follow the path laid by Colt Brennan, who transferred from Colorado to Hawaii to play in Junes’ Run n’ Shoot offense and ended up breaking the NCAA record for touchdown passes.

I think you missed some sarcasm there.Stallion wrote:He is the No. 2 rated QB in the Country and has been mentioned in consideration for Heisman-he's playing pretty well
