Postby ponyscott » Mon Oct 10, 2011 9:03 pm

Its crazy how much these top College Football teams can make for their Universities and Texas was making/NETTING $68 million per YEAR, even before the Longhorn Network was announced....

Unbelievable. And SMU got the DP for paying players. We SHOULD be paying players. I did NOT bring the same value to SMU that Zach Line, JG, etc bring currently. And we all got the same full ride scholarships. Actually, I did NOTHING to bring revenue to SMU. It's a mess. They DESERVE to get paid. NCAA is a whack job.

CNNMoney just reported that college football made a $1.1 billion profit in 2010. You can read the article here.

Just a couple tidbits from the article:

Profit for the 68 teams that play in the six major conferences was up 11% from a year ago

On average, each team earned $15.8 million last year, or well over $1 million per game

Here are the most profitable teams in 2010:

Texas – $93,942,815 in revenue and reported $68,830,484 in profit

Georgia – $70,838,539 in revenue and reported $52,529,885 in profit

Penn State – $70,208,584 in revenue and reported $50,427,645 in profit

Michigan – $63,189,417 in revenue and reported $44,861,184 in profit

Florida – $68,715,750 in revenue and reported $44,258,193 in profit

Are you going to pay the other sports too or just football?

Interesting how football revenue makes other sports possible and facilities better.
Not to mention the money going to academic progress for the entire school and construction.

Academic programs? You really think that the UT athletic program gives money back to the school when the boys in Austin just give them more and more state money to subsidize the school?

Let's audit UT's athletic program, we have the right to ask. Just where does all that money go? Where does the $30,000,000 in expenses really go? Where does the surplus go?

Last time I checked, UT had the minimum sports teams for D-1. For instance they have no soccer program. Seems like they put forth minimum effort.

This quote comes from an interesting Texas Observer article from January, 2010
...Mack Brown is the head football coach and public face of Longhorns Inc. In 2008, his company had $138 million in total revenues.

Of that $138 million, according to Kevin Hegarty, after $15 million is paid for bond obligations connected with stadium building projects, UT athletics anticipates having $4 million in profits. $2 million of this will be returned to its roughly $20 million reserve fund. It will pay $1 million to academics through a recent arrangement whereby it controls copyright and trademark revenues and returns to the university proper either $1 million or 10 percent. In 2008 these revenues were $10.6 million. Why should Longhorns Inc keep 90% of these revenues?

The whole article is a good read if anyone is interested...

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

hotel taxes, rental car taxes, sales taxes at restaurants/bars/shopping, and all those employ people. waiters/waitresses/bartenders make more in tips which they in turn spend in the local economy, etc.

heck, ask Jana who runs Gameday Cloth (banner to the left) how much money they saw selling TxOU stuff last weekend or when LSU played here. I know at 1st & 10 that is our single best day in sales.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
