Get_Some_Ponies wrote:The last bowl was in Dallas, we got beat, attendance this year is meh...if we end up in a BCS conference June is gonna be in Hawaii if he has any influence on it. Hawaii is a stated team goal. Why should they play in Dallas "for the fans" when those fans don't even show up on Saturdays? Because the hardest core Pony Fans think the only way to earn respect is to play Nebraska or the six seed from the SEC? I think the last Hawaii game worked out pretty well for the school and they'll be eager to do it again
That's a terrible attitude to have towards your existing fan base. You''re saying that because there aren't enough fans that show up to home game, screw the ones who do? That's a great way to build your fan base.

Stallion how does that work? Conferences are tied in and agree to be ok with the selection order which is all based on payouts? Hat I two bowls want the same team? Who sorts it out or is it just all based on money?
and you said that Hawaii is the team's goal. I hope that winning the C-USA championship is the team's goal, and I've always understood that the C-USA champ plays in the Liberty Bowl. Which would be a great trip for the players and very doable for most alums, not to mention a game against an SEC team.

LA I'm more in line w/ mrydal's point about the players. I think two years in Dallas sucks, the players clearly do not want that to happen again and have been playing for Hawaii. I think they deserve a trip a lot more than local fans who don't go to games deserve a close bowl. Not about screw the fans a much a reward the players. Some of these guys will never have another chance for a trip like that.
It is probably just me but I have always thought of the bowl games as more for the players than the fans. Whether it is to have a great time in Hawaii or play for a National Championship in Tempe it is for the kids. The fans get the benefit of the occasion. Even though more SMU fans could go if it were in Dallas, more SMU fans might enjoy it more if it were somewhere else. Again, for me, Hawaii is the only place I know that I cannot go because of grandchildren and Christmas being about the only things I put before SMU. But the players would enjoy it, as would many fans as we have already proven.

We sold out the armed forces bowl. Having a local team in it is a plus from a bowl comittee's perspective.

the players should be playing for memphis because that is where the CUSA champion plays
I'm not saying that I necessarly want to see them play in a Dallas bowl game, I just think as long as we are in C-USA our goal should be to play in the Liberty Bowl, which has always hosted the C-USA champ. But any bowl game in the domestic US is great in my opinion.

Pony- JJ has made lots of talk about Liberty not having to take the CUSA champ. What I've heard and read on here as specific, common team goals was A&M, TCU, Houston, CUSA champs and JJ will get them to Hawaii. No doubt our 25K fans will help fill the Cotton Bowl. There was a LOT of black at the Bowl last year.

there was nothing wrong with playing the Armed Forces bowl, it was a good crowd and atmosphere. Our team was flat, but i thought it had more to do with the whole game presentation being one big awkward valentine to the military and the Army boys. We got duped into being the patsy/bad guys on our home field. It was weird. I think it would be much different to line up against BYU this year, or even better Nebraska at the Cotton Bowl.
I wonder why they picked Nebraska. They are 5-1 and not likely to drop to the 7th Big 10 selection I wouldn't think. Ohio St is 4-3 (1-2 in Conference) and I would think a more likely candidate. Also Iowa. Thank goodness for that Bowl that Northwestern dropped to 2-4
