Translation: Probably not going to happen, so lets go Big East
Some people simply forget just how bad it was...

Of course - we will just set aside the fact that this isnt really a question for us -but if it were i really dont think i would want to go Big 12. We are not a Texan school like every other texas school in the big 12 - and frankly we are fairly acc in our size, academics and attitude. So Big East is the next best thing to that....

Why be UT's B#tch and have to lose an arms race with them yearly when we can be regularly in the top third of the BE and have great bowl tie ins - great basketball (and march madness money gets very big since you get shares of 7-8 teams - 4 of which always get to the sweet 16), - I am not sure when the TV deal gets redone that the BE is not similar to Big 12 when you consider the basketball revenue. Big 12 is good also - but not like the BE and we have no advantage over our big 12 members like we would if we can offer recruits a BE schedule.

Also - great east coast media which helps our overall university and student recruiting from a broader market - it is really the best spot for us.

i bet this might be generational also - older alums probably prefer big 12 for nostalgia reasons- younger probably like the higher level school connections.

SEC
The ultimate, blow-the-doors-off outcome.
No question.

Greatness! I like the last part the best. The veteran SMU fans have a score to settle for the SWC slapping. Newer fans would like to go to a finance conference in NY and not have to tell Wall-Street people where SMU is located. Very different motives I'm sure!

Yes, yes, yes. I'm a proud Southerner, but I'd love for SMU to be better known by the damn Yankees for finance reasons. Also, for university recruitment purposes, the Northeast is our weakest region (CT is strong though) and we could pick up some strong students. Overall, we are a much better cultural fit with most of the Big East than the Big 12

I love regional rivalries but I think that the Big 12 is epically disfunctional and the BE has strong upside potential.

birddogger wrote:BREAKING NEWS: We’re now part of a three-conference deal involving Missouri, Memphis and Cal Tech. Apparently, SMU has been invited to the Big East, but has traded the invitation to Memphis in exchange for application rights to the Big XII. We have then exchange the combined the Big XII application with Missouri’s current membership (now SEC-bound), for which we have traded three faculty members to be named later, a year’s supply of beef jerky, and a VW microbus. Cal Tech is doing the math in exchange for the VW. Read it here:

Hope one of the faculty members you are trading is "Otter".

not sure he is really faculty. I dont know many faculty that use emoticons in their communications - and although they get emotional they dont typically need to get hysterical - so i think that faculty thing was an invention.

To add another level to the analysis, assuming that Nick is correct an we are number four on the list, doesn't that mean that UH is the likely #5. If so, how does that affect our view of the BIG 12. Wouldn't we then want to take a Big12 invite because we wouldn't want to be the only legit D-1 school in Texas that is not in the Big 12.

For the record, taking UH out of the equation. I prefer BE to Big 12 because it offers a better platform to continue our growth and also for selfish reasons due to having b-ball games in Chicago, South Bend and Milwaukee.

no brainer for SMU if they actually had invites from both BE and Big XII...no more difficult a decision than it was for TCU. Keep it as regional as possible, for the fans benefit...not to mention the student-athletes and their parents/families.

pretty sure he is but it is not really relevant to anything on this board. Leave it at that.

Charleston - how quaint that you think fans, family or players have anything at all to do with any of this. Very last century of you.
