How have we sunken so low? Forget last season's winless record, I wrote it off as a fluke. Where we are right now -- right after the pathetic loss to Fresno -- is the single lowest point in SMU football history. Yes, even worse than when Berst read the DP judgement because at least then we knew we'd take our medicine, be off for a year or two and come back still a member of one of the top conferences in the nation.

I was depressed and angry reading both DMN articles. Then I was strangely hopeful. Write this down. I'm going on record to say that Stallion's been right all along -- it is not Cavan or Bennett. It's the talent.

I'm hopeful because I like how Bennett is handling himself in what has to be a maddening time for him: He's on the offensive. And it looks like we may be taking the idea of further reforms seriously. That and our new conference affiliation gives me some hope. Perhaps we've seen rock bottom.
