Wait a second--the Frogs are playing on Wed. night?

Postby BRStang » Tue Nov 09, 2004 9:36 am

I thought academics reigned supreme over at Tarrant County Univ. What about the players who have tests on Thursday or Friday? Hello???

I guess a regular schedule game against Louisville means much more to the little Toads than a Liberty Bowl berth.

As I mention after the Tech debacle, the toads are likely to be under 500 this season and now it seems almost certain.

Not a way to get into the Liberty or any other bowl.

Bye-bye bowl streak. Bye-bye TCU.

I believe we would be more than happy to play on Wednesday night.

Also, I can't stand TCU, BUT they beat us 44-0 and have been to several bowl games. I think we need to worry about SMU and getting better. Until we beat TCU and are competitive we have no room to talk about the TCU's and UNT's (will be heading to their fourth straight bowl game) of the world. 2 wins in 2 seasons shows we have more important things to worry about than what other schools in the area are doing. It makes us sound like whiners.

I agree - first priority is improving our own program.

However, with that said, the MWC move seems even less intelligent if they don't make a bowl. What kind of draw will a 5-6 Frog team be in Ford Collins? Laramie? At least they'll have much higher travel expenses and less exposure through smaller crowds than they have now and TV exposues. That should help!

OK--you guys seemed to have missed my point. Geez...

Last season TCU snubbed the Liberty Bowl because "academics took primary importance" and their players supposedly had exams to study for. There was "no way" they could make a game in the middle of the week. EVERYONE IN THE WORLD besides TCU thought such a rejection was only due to TCU's anger toward C-USA for bringing in the likes of SMU, Rice and Tulsa and letting the other teams go. Of course, TCU denied this.

This season, however, TCU has played 2 games in the middle of week. My question is (tongue in cheek): Where are the high academic standards now? Are the players with tests this week sitting out this game?

BR - the irony of TCU saying that last year was that they played several thursday and wednesday games last year. i want to say that they even played on a monday or tuesday (don't have the time right now at work to look it up).

It is part of the TV contract btwn espn and CUSA. it will be interesting to see how this works out for us next year and if there will be some long afternoon/happy hours on the boulevard.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

How embarrassing! I guess I was sitting on the fastball and you slid a changeup right past me! Personally, I never bought the "academic standards" BS from frogtown any more than you did, but I also didn't think it was done out of anger toward CUSA - I thought they simply wanted a home game for their bowl and figured that any team that might get invited to FW wouldn't be good enough to beat them on their home field. Oops. But as for the Louisville game, there's money to be made, and who are the frogs to let a little thing like academics get in the way of lining the athletic coffers?

And of course they get to wave the CUSA flag, right? Ah yes - CUSA pride....

The Liberty Bowl was played during finals week which would probably make re-scheduling any exams missed pretty difficult.

If we are going to tease the frogs about their bowl last season, lets at least get it correct, they shunned the GMAC mobile bowl, the only way they could have gone to the liberty was if they had won the conference which they didn't because they lost to Southern Miss. Another interesting tidbit though, if we somehow win these last two games, and the frogs lose out (3 games) then we will end the season with identical records.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

I don't think the Red and Blue Scrimmage is actually counted as a W but I may be wrong. Otherwise, we only beat Tulsa and San Jose State this year. I still remember not winning anything in '03.

It wasn't the Liberty Bowl it was that bowl in Birmingham (the GMAC or Capital One or High Interest Credit for U Bowl). They did cite academic conflict issues which everyone believed were a crock. They would not have passed up the Liberty Bowl, its payoff is twice that of the Ft. Worth Bowl.

I stand corrected. Indeed, it wasn't the Liberty Bowl but the GMAC Bowl that TCU declined out of spite for C-USA.
