94,
Not the "next week" part. That is the only news that has been consistent throughout all of this.

The Cougars have been in discussions with the Big East for weeks about joining the league. However, negotiations between the Big East and BYU have stalled.
"I doubt BYU will happen," a college football industry source told CBSSports.com. "They are being extremely unreasonable all of a sudden. This is one reason why they did not get into the Big 12. Their general counsel is a piece of work."
BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe and coach Bronco Mendenhall are said to favor a move to the Big East, but BYU President Cecil Samuelson and the school’s general counsel haven’t been as receptive. That is unless the Cougars can retain their home television rights, which is unheard of for a conference school.

SDSU is never too far west. Its worth every penny for the trip. However, the current pecking order is correct: go for BYU first then SDSU

I don't believe you can fly direct to Provo from Dallas or Houston. So, in that sense, San Diego is closer.

The fact that a Juco like SDSU is even in the mix is an embarrassment. I understand Boise needs a western travel partner, but dang. SMU may have hiked up its skirt in this deal, but SDSU offered to share a cell with Sandusky.
I know dont like the school but love the excuse to go back to SD. Also could use an easy school to boost.

I never wanted BYU anyway.

Re: Current State of Big East Negotiations
So no BYU and no AFA. Great. Instead we add a huge commuter school in a state facing the largest public education budget crisis in the nation's history. Sounds like this BE is gonna be awesome.
BTW, we went from adding two great traveling schools (BYU and AFA) to a school that doesn't travel farther than a wet fart. This seriously sucks.

OK- CMF who do you recommend to replace BYU. You don't like SDSU. I seriously doubt that AFA joins the team as I think the MWC commish convinced them the merger of 'losers and laggards' would make them famous.

OK- wouldn't necessarily disagree with your choices except for #6. If BYU can't join without giving the BE moderate gas then I don't think we need them. IMO- I would like to have them but they are not so special as to deserve all the extra concessions.

Allow me to be the one to mention that SDSU will probably finish with a better record than SMU this year. What exactly does SMU add that San Diego doesnt? Football is roughly equivalent, and SMU will actually hurt the Big Easts basketball ratings. Be careful about throwing stones, because that "POS mid-major" label fits more than a few of the teams invited to the Big Desperation Conference.
