From various sources, SMU has previously offered Casey [deleted] (Allen-committed to Ark.), Daniel Raudabaugh(Coppell-committed to Miami Ohio), Justin Willis(Denton Ryan-uncommitted) and Cameron Luke(Klien Collins-uncommitted). Several other were considering SMU and committed elsewhere. Hey, this makes the third straight recruit we have committed who has no other reported Division 1A offers. That's a warning sign. So are 6-1 QBs who run 4.8.

I don't see any order above. Facts on that will help.

And here's a fact or two for you. The DMN is reporting that Johnson was also offered by New Mexico State, that he's the brother of redshirt freshman Blake Johnson, and that he attended our football camp where the staff was able to get a good, long look at him. I'm not saying he's great -- I don't know. It's time to admit that YOU DON'T EITHER. :P

I'll be interested to see who's on the Fort Worth paper's list (mentioned in another thread).

I never said he wasn't great. I said he was not near SMU's own first choice and was not highly recruited-the truth!- which seems to tick so many of you off. Get used to it because this is shaping up as that type of year.

You know, Stallion, DeMyron Martin was not the first running back on anyone's list and ended up being offered by A$M and Ark.

Nobody on this board has said anything but facts about Johnson or any of our recruits. No one is predicting greatness for anyone..... but SMU football in general. The coaches are excellent talent evaluators, period.

Next?

P.S. I know for a fact Baylor was closing in on Eric as were several other MWC schools. He did not play varsity football at Plano West but got to play all the JV games as a juniior (which helped him get ready for the big time)

Unless I'm mixing him up with someone else, I don't think he opened the season as the starting QB. But once he got in there, he played really well.

Thank you. I'll accept your admission of ignorance. And I'll take the point for stating that he was indeed offered by at least one other Division I team. Now please explain to me again how you figured out from reading your recruiting rags who is and who isn't our first QB recruiting choice. Blowhard.

So you're saying, then, that the order in which they appear on Rivals (or whatever other site you pay a ton of money to in order to look like you know what the hell you're talking about) is a direct reflection of the preferences of the SMU coaches? Seems a bit of a stretch to an amateur like myself. I'll go with the alternate theory that you haven't a clue.

Yes I would tend to conclude that a kid they offered 2 weeks ago was not their No. 1 choice when they offered others 4, 3, 2 months ago. You on the other hand suggest that it is possible that SMU offered the QB they wanted all along fifth-in which event the Coaching Staff should all be fired.

Except for one thing...how does anyone know when anyone was offerd? Seems to me only the coaching staff and recruits know when, not the recruiting services..unless the recruiting services verify directly with the coaches, no one correctly knows. I doubt any school is going to verify an offer that was not accepted. I wonder how correctly the recruits are reporting their offers, especially those they don't plan on accepting.

One could predict what is happening now, would happen.

We issued a lot of offers to some of the top players. Many of these players had a LOT of offers. It is getting to be required to get your foot in the door of a top player that you need to make an early offer.

We all know that most of those would not pan out and that we would be making offers now to other players on our list. Of course, if you are going to try to get top players you would need to be making new offers now when those players finally have taken all their trips and have committed.

This is not a time or reason for hand wringing.
