how'd he do on Zack Line? Sterling Moore? Taylor Reed? JaGared Davis, & Stephon Sanders?
HS quarterbacks are recruited every year at every Univ & most never amount to much.
Mack Brown thought Garrett Gilbert was gonna be great for the Longhorns...so what?
The Texas Longhorns with all their prestige, power, & money cant find a quarterback either.
Hell most NFL Teams cant even find a quarterback!
June has us in three straight bowl games...well on our way out of the darkness
and you already wanna get rid of him...and for who?..some mythical "greener pasture"
that will have to start over with recruiting his own players...bring in a new system...ect

There is a reason coach Jones talks about having 6 scholarship QBs on campus. You never know what you have mentally until they get here. Three underclass QBs and three upperclass QBs. Hopefully one of the three pans out, and you are set at the position. Hopefully Padron comes back strong and plays well until either Gilbert or Preston is ready.

He missed on him. Happy to bet a case of beer on it. He will never take an in-game snap for SMU. That was evident sometime this season when it appeared that short of robbing a bank, JJ McD wasn't getting the hook.

Took 15 seconds to declare Willis wasn't good enough to run the offense. Took 15 games to declare BLM was a miss. Then Padron was apparently another miss. Now JJ McD is a bunt pop out to the catcher. The immortal Braden Smith & Gamso also ran through here during his tenure.

It's not heresy to express concern that a head coach who's reputation is that of an offensive mastermind and QB guru, who has a personal QB coach on staff with very few or no other responsibilities, has missed numerous times over four years, and who happens to run an offensive system that requires above average to excellent QB play.

Preston, Gilbert, Printz all look like outstanding additions to the position, and I'm very glad we've got all three. Hopefully there will be a big uptick in the play at the position with that kind of talent moving forward. Again, though, it's not heretical to express concern at the quality of play at the most important position in this offense over the first four years.

It is a low blow, not you taking them, to take keyboard pot-shots at players who just simply aren't good at this level. Buck stops at the head coach's desk.

I'm just wondering if in his tenure, Jones ever really tailored an offense around his quarterback's strengths and found a way to minimize his weaknesses or if he just said, "This is my offense and QBs better learn it the way I teach it by throwing to these zones or it's their fault.''

I also wonder if June does or does not do a quality job of communicating with his QBs.

Personally, I think Todd Dodge is a better QB teacher than Jones.

I had a minor case of mono in high school. It was caught early and ended up being no big deal. I think I stayed home from school for 2 weeks. My wife, on the other hand, got mono while at SMU and it absolutely floored her. She basically missed an entire semester of school and spent a month in a hotel room at the DoubleTree being cared for by her mother. So mono can go either way, depending largely I think on how early its diagnosed.

You guys always seem to think June is sooooo inflexible, but actually I have been surprised by how much he has been willing to depend on the run. Oh I know you'll say..."well he doesnt have any choice". Oh really? Yes he does...if he was as stubborn as you guys claim he would just keep throwing. Are there any running backs at Minnesota running the power style offense you so much prefer with as many rushing yards as Zack Line? We are winning with the running game and with defense...both not the typical trademarks of a June Jones team. So eventually when June gets his "air force" working we shouldl add 2-3 more wins to the 7. We are winning 7 regular season games even without June's trademark, it's certainly not the time to make or hope for a coaching change at Smu.

Anyone else notice that there is no consideration of Padron playing next year in the article? It reads as if Preston is the man and Kaiser will fight for his starts. Sure doesn't sound like either Kaiser or Preston are considered back-ups for a senior Padron start.

It sure was. But, Kaiser spent enough time talking about Preston and plaing next year that it was conspicuos that the possibility of either of those guys sharing snaps with Padron was not mentioned. Read between the lines and you see that the decision about Padron has been made and communicated to the two junior QB's. You will not see Padron next year.

Kaiser won't see the field. Just clear that out of your head. QBs on the chart that could actually see the field next year are Padron, Preston, Burcham if he signs a LOI.

Its going to be Padron, Gilbert, Preston, Printz, Burcham. In that pecking order if times available elapse. Just with those QBs (so long as they turn out) are fine the way they are.
