Rivals also has a story about the Allen High School OL, who I think SMU has offered. Headline says: "Walton not sure what to think about Utah".
Do we still have a shot at the guy?

Are we still after him? With some of us (myself included) hoping for some JUCO linemen, is he still on the radar? Is he going to take an official visit?
Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!

I'm sure everybody would like to follow Urban to Florida-- I didn't know JD was a 4-STAR??? But-- I think we can compete with ColoSt & IowaSt
You often see players rated (and recruited) based on measurable characteristics, sometimes more than production at the high school level. An offensive tackle who still needs to gain 40 pounds sometimes will be offered by a slew of schools because he's 6'6" and has good feet and long arms.
J.D. is not that kind of player. This is a guy who can flat play. Not sure where those numbers were collected -- my last update on him (October) had him just a hair under 6'3 and about 280. This is not a guy who might grow into a player, he can play already. He's not a five-star immediate starter-type, but he also isn't a guy who needs three years of learning and growing. That's not to say he'll go to a college and dominate from the start; every offensive lineman has a major learning curve as he learns his new team's blocking schemes and gets used to playing with the other linemen. But here's a guy whose body already is pretty mature (although he certainly will get stronger) and already has pretty solid technique. He gets his hands on defensive linemen quickly and locks on, effectively removing that defender from the play. He has good feet and balance. His pass blocking is OK, but should be better. He's a tremendous run blocker who plays with very good leverage and has great power in his lower body. When he gets his hands on you and starts driving with his legs, you're done. To really excel at the next level, he needs more upper body strength, and he needs to improve his quickness and explosion off the snap.
