Easy there. That's way too much common sense and logical thinking for the pitchfork-wielding divas on here.

Agree with your post, coaching is just business, no need to take it personally.

I bet he is using this as leverage to get more. Such as a raise for Klemm and Mason and an IPF

Well if all the recruiting is attributed to both of them, and Mason's defense has actually been legit so they deserve it. The IPF is needed and would make it a huge huge recruiting tool. Plus if the superbowl comes back to Dallas again, we wont have to tell them sorry go to HPHS

Re: I Would Be Doing the Same
Amen.
I think guys like Mitch and Nick probably just like poking the Pony Nation to see what kind of reaction they'll get.
I'll be the first to admit there are a few kooky things June has done (nags and black unis come immediately to mind). But to switch horses (if you'll pardon the pun) at this point makes no [Gary Patterson] sense.
You can't, for example, discredit June's on-the-field success (i.e. anybody can win now that entrance requirements have been relaxed) without also crediting June for forcing those changes to be made. Just like you can't assume Klemm and the recruits will stay when 1) Klemm is the guy who came off the beach and off the proverbial golf course to work - for free - for his former coach, and 2) these recruits committed because they like the entire package (including June) that SMU has to offer.
Oh, and IMHO, June has hired a fantastic coaching staff. And they should be paid like it. If SO doesn't get that, I think the Mustang Club ought to setup a separate assistant coaches fund.

Agreed but dont discredit SO. I think SO is very talented AD. I mean is it coincidence that both UCF and SMU are going to the Big East? Probably not. SO can manage and handle negotiations very well. I couldnt agree more about June and what he has done for us. I obviously have said a few thing, but only when it comes to his interests. I hate when hes all wanting to make love with Hawaii and their economy and throw (normal alum) under the bus. Fortunately we are going to BBVA so no worries. I want him to either accept or adopt SMU as his home and try to either market or find someone to market the SMU brand. All we need is a full stadium to be one of the best and upcoming teams in CFB.
Re: I Would Be Doing the Same
SMU is finding out for the first time in many, many years that the sign of a good program is that other schools want your coach. SMU hasn't had a former head coach be a head coach again since Forrest Gregg (and his was in the CFL). All of this "I thought he was an honorable man" stuff is bogus because coaches leave for other jobs all the time, and until SMU gets to the level of Texas, Texas A&M, Nebraska or Oklahoma, it will always be a stepping stone job and not a destination job.
I will be sad if Jones leaves because he hasn't finished what he started, but he left the program in far better shape than he found it.

good post

I support his desire to improve his situation, but do disagree with the way he is going about it. I also think that like any other coach he needs to do what is right for himself and his family, but then don't spew any bs about spirituality when speaking about coming to SMU.
Re: I Would Be Doing the Same
If he leaves, I just wish he would do it after this years class has signed their LOIs

Rarely, if ever, happens. Because then you lose an entire class at the new school you're going to.

Agree with this. I think most, including Nick and Mitch, understand that coaches sending out feelers is part of the game. It is the manner in which this has all gone down that is absurd and shows a complete lack of respect for SMU. Compare it to Sumlin. He is the hottest name in coaching right now and can have his choice of jobs, but he is showing a ton of respect to UH. He is showing how it should be done.
