If June Leaves We Will Be OK
Far more important that Orsini stays. We have the infrastructure in place for a quality coach to win. This is no longer a dead end job. If June decides to continue holding the university hostage tell him to take his [deleted] offense to the PAC and get destroyed playing elite competition. We have given him everything he wants and he gives us a whole year of McDermott at QB. I like June and hope he stays but the guy isn't without his flaws. SMU would be a very desireable job. Lots of quality coaches covet this place now. For that we should be grateful to June. But SMU is bigger than June Jones.

Oh really?
If you acknowledge the fact that June was gift-wrapped for Orsini by Eric Dickerson and Hawaii's ex-AD, then the rest of his track record doesn't look so good.
Orsini's job, IMHO, is keeping June happy. If June leaves, I don't think Orsini is doing his job.

Orsini's job is to hire and retain the best possible people for SMU athletics. [deleted] June if he isn't happy here. We have given him everything he wants and he has this program stuck in neutral. Don't let this egomaniac bully you.

How did that work out for Hawaii? I don't seem to recall them going to any BCS bowls AFTER June left.

This whole ordeal and how June Jones has handled it has really opened my eyes on him. I thought he was a different kind of guy. Turns out he is just another hired gun. We will be just fine without him.

Hawaii isn't financially committed to winning and is 1,500 miles off the coast. SMU has bigtime money, bigtime boosters, great location, great facilities, and BCS platform. We are light years ahead of Hawaii in perception by potential coaches.

Divorces usually end with mud slinging. No need to go there. Not that it's going to stop many posters here -- that's just human nature, an attempt to protect one's pride.
But if this goes through, as it appears it will, then if you care about the truth, we have nothing about which to blame June or his staff. He's done his job. Though there have been multiple concessions, it's still true that SMU has not lived up to its side of the deal. Which caused repeated conflict and friction. Which caused a JJ to consider looking last year and this.
There are still plenty of ivory tower types causing multiple headaches on the admissions and academic fronts. We refuse to market. We refuse to reach out beyond the friendly confines of the Bubble to bring ALL of Dallas on board.
Here's a quote from a buddy who emailed me this morning:
June or no, we need continued pressure to correct these shortcomings and become a big boy college.

"people in Lake Highlands and DeSoto and Plano and Mesquite don't even know SMU exists!" -- I would agree with this statement.
Don't get mad at me for saying this, but to me it's like an extension of HPHS.

Grossly underpaid for going 7-5 three straight years in freaking CUSA? Come on. These guys are well compensated based on performance. The timing was wrong, the way he handled it was wrong, and it's not going to be soon forgotten.

Where did we COME from, though? 108 out of 119 college teams in the decade before he got here.
And it's not just winning, he's changed our expectations. He's the very reason you've forgotten what we have been.
Give him the props he deserves.

Re: If June Leaves We Will Be OK
As I said, June has done a good job here. We are no longer a doormat. But it wasn't until he came along that SMU became committed to winning. We have the infrastructure and vision in place now. June got us around the corner just like Fran did at TCU. now we need our Patterson to get us to the next level.

Ok SMT, please answer me this. You're in JJ shoes. His assistant coaches are grossly underpaid (especially certain ones). He's about to get his pocket picked if he can't get them more money. You ask the school, they say no because they have to fund their new "Human Rights" major (as an example). What do you do to raise the money?
June is doing what we would all do. He's walking into his bosses office with leverage and saying I'll leave unless we can fix X. It's called leverage. It doesn't make him a villain.
How do you knwo they are grossly underpaid...Do you really know or are just speculating?
Also, how much do you think they are worth outside of klemm, and maybe mason?
