Rich Phillips/Graig SwannI was reminded how lucky we are to have Rich and Craig broadcasting our games. Not only are they entertaining .... they actually can identify players. I just got through watching the Cowboys get slapped around by the Saints (how embarrassing is that?) On the kickoff after the last New Orleans score, Fox announcer Curt Menefee (formerly of Channel 11 and The Ticket) gave credit for the kick return to Rashard Lewis (the Seattle Sonics forward now returns kicks?) instead of ReShard Lee. But then the play was called back because of a flag on Keith Lee .... who the roster lists as Keith Davis. But at least they got things straightened out by wondering allowed if the Cowboys could stage a last-minute comeback against New Orleans, as they did Monday night against the Seattle .... Saints?
I certainly enjoy listening to their broadcasts...esp. Craig. He's not one to mince words.
BTW, didn't know that Keith Lee was in the NFL...last I remember of him was the story about Dana Kirk giving him a shoebox full of money to play at Memphis State. Happy Advent and even a happier Christmas NORMLFROG Mike Tranghese can suck it!
We are lucky to have quality announcers. I listen to many SMU away games and as many UConn games as possible on the internet. The SMU announcing team blows away the UConn guys. Of course, the UConn guys have been there for a generation; they started when that program was literally playing just in front of the players' families.
I really liked Wally Lynn and I was sure there would be a drop-off when he left. But I don't think that has happened. Always a Connecticut Yankee, but happy in Texas since January 1986.
I don't know that Rich qualifies as a homer, considering he's a NTSU graduate (I think). But he certainly gets amped up with homer calls. And Swann is fantastic.
When you think about it, we've had some damn good announcers around here. Ted Dawson, who initially did play-by-play in 1989, was god-awful. But beyond him? Craig James, the great Forrest Gregg, Dan Freiburger, Wally Lynn, Mark Followill, Rich, Craig -- they've all been good announcers. We've been very lucky to have such talent in the booth. They've made the too-far road games much more fun to listen to.
