"The selection of Sievers and Huston to the Academic All-America team continues Nebraska’s unmatched tradition of academic awards. Sievers becomes Nebraska’s 60th first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America selection, 22 more than second-place Notre Dame. The Huskers now boast a nation-leading 83 football all-teams certificates and 219 overall Academic All-Americans across all teams and all sports."

I am aware of Nebraska's Academic All-Americans. The number is prominently displayed above the 50 yard line on the front of the east upper deck in Memorial Stadium. Additionally, before I visit a campus/stadium for a game I read everything I can find about the university and its athletics program.

What I was implying when I included "lax academics" in my earlier post is that UNL also has classes and degree programs for those recruits with academic potential but underdeveloped academic skills. UNL also has some classes and programs available for recruits who are unintelligent.

by that measure, the only person that people think of when you mention SMU football is Dickerson.

I damn sure hope they think of Eric Dickerson- rather than Mike Romo or Craig Swann-when they think of SMU football. I doubt if the casual fan could name a single SMU football player in the 15 years since the Ken Pye's Grand Experiemen. Last time I checked Dickerson never flunked out, never was arrested for drug possession, never was arrested for rape and has never done hard time and is an honored member of the NFL Hall Fame. Give me more Dickersons anyday.

More Dickersons would have prohibitively expensive, given the size of the fund.

The former University of Nebraska runner was drafted sixth overall in 1996 by the St. Louis Rams, despite pleading no contest to a charge of domestic violence in a confrontation with a girlfriend while at Nebraska.

He was released for insubordination in 1997 after 25 games with the Rams.

Phillips signed with the Miami Dolphins later in the 1997 season, but was released after pleading no contest to hitting a woman in a nightclub.

He was the top offensive player in NFL Europe in 1999 after setting league records for rushing and touchdowns with the Barcelona Dragons. He signed with the San Francisco 49ers in 1999, but was released for missing a practice.

Forrmer NFL running back Lawrence Phillips, who was released by Calgary of the CFL in October, appeared in Quebec Court on Thursday after being charged with sexual assault. He was also charged with assault and uttering threats.

What type of person would come on this board and equate Eric Dickerson to Lawrence Phillips?
