Estimate Your 2012 Final Recruiting Class Ranking

Post by Mustangs_Maroons »

With approximately three weeks until the NLI signing dates, where do you think our class will ultimately settle out to in terms of team rank by rivals? Vote and give your assumptions (ie, assuming certain player(s) signs). Have fun!

well, we are in the 60's now, and that is with Lewis, who is likely gone. JP and crew have some work to do to get us back to where we were, which was in the 30's prior to Klemmleaving and JJ's ASU fuster cluck

86- Why are you calling out PonyinNC? IMO he just made a comment on why we have fallen from a 30s rank to a 60s level. It is what it is.

OK- my bad. Sometimes it's hard to pick up on humor or cynicism when they are just written words with no inflection involved.

I understand the reason for being disappointed given what happened with the JJ fiasco and with Klemm leaving. I was trying to be optimistic by hoping that we would have a strong 2 weeks on the recruiting front to take us in the top 50. I'm also optimistic that we'll be able to get at least one of JP's Houston recruits, some other guys that have been on the fence and some guys we've recently extended offers to. I wanted to get a pulse from you guys who follow this a lot, and it's interesting to see most see us not being able to recover and staying out of the top 50, which, again, is certainly understandable.

btw whoever that was claiming Klemm was flaming out at UCLA in recruiting-he just got his 6th commitment this one from a Scout 4 Star(high 3 star on Rivals). That makes 3 recruits who were 4 star on either Rivals or Scout.

86 - I knew you were kidding, no worries.

In all honestly I think Klemm did more to hurt smu than he ever did to help us. Seriously, he stole from us a top 40 class and basically nuked our 2012. IIRC The only significant guys he ever brought us were Levingston (hopefully he doesn't transfer b/c he can be great), Preston, and Gottschalk.

He set us back so far by leaving near the end of recruiting for 2012 and takinghis guys with him. Wish he had the same loyalty that it appears JP may have toward UH.

Klemm sucks donkey ballz

Guys like Stallion that following recruiting can correct me if I'm wrong, but I just don't see too many guys in play that will give SMU a boost in rankings…not that the rankings really matter all that much. Who knows though, perhaps a few new kids pop up at the last second.
You are right. Currently SMU has 251 Rivals points. Colorado is 50th with 594 points. SMU has 13 3-stars.

If SMU added 7 3-stars (top 20 in class count towards ranking) then we would have 345 points. I do not know if that would be 51st or 60th, but it is obviously way behind 50th.

The only UH recruit I see that provides bonus points is Marrick Charles. He is the 45th ranked DT, and the top 50 DT provide bonus. If SMU got 7 3-stars and one of them was Marrick Charles, then SMU would have 485 points.

Of course, that assumes that Robert Lewis is an SMU committ as he provides bonus as well.

You are also right that the class rankings are pretty silly. I track SMU rivals rankings because it is something people talk about a lot and it is short hand for how good a recruiting class is, but a formula that awards more points for every other player in the class just because you sign one top player is somewhat ridiculous.
