KP wasn't even much of a high school prospect (I know that he didn't play much). But at least GG has a ton of talent. So things aren't all that bad for 2012.

The last thing I want is another Armed Forces Bowl performance.

If the last thing you want is another Armed Forces Bowl performance, then maybe you need to look at the bigger picture and realize that it's not just a QB issue. The team was completely uninspired that game and let a lesser talented team beat them. Could that be indicative of their coaching? You tell me.

And yes, I know we need better to move on (AGREE bigtime) but what does all this say about our HC?

It says our HC has done a poor job of recruiting and developing talent at his position of expertise and it's the primary reason we're under .500 during his tenure with no conference titles and exactly 1 game out of 52 with high quality R&S execution. Some guru.

I can't imagine a more revisionist statement than this.

Call it revisionism if you like but it's obvious to anyone who has been paying attention that our worst recruited and developed position has been QB. That falls on the so-called QB guru.

Hate to see this if it is true, especially since he did so much for SMU's sucess. Can't blame him though. Kicked to the curb after leading us to bowl after 25 years is shameful to not get him some playing time. Realy surprised we have any backup skill people stil on campus who are on scholarship. To only play your starters 99% of the time in order to get stats to promote your run and shoot without any regard in developing young guys, even in blowout losses is so out of date and rarely seen with other teams in D1. See what happened to Line...they flat wore him out and for your star player to play on kickoff coverage teams(i know he made the play against TCU)....unbelievable. If you don't start you don't play has been the philosophy of June and I think it is because he can't handle substitutions, play calling and game management at his age and with the complex changes defenses have made. Hopefully he wil listen to Phillips, swallow his pride and adjust accordingly..

He and JJ just must not get along. Otherwise, this doesn't make any sense. GG here for one year, Kyle gets another year with redshirt. So he battles GG for starting job and if he doesn't get it (not a foregone conclusion that he doesn't), he'll have another year. I hope he can get into a program and start right away and have 2 good seasons - I don't know where that would be though.

Very interesting. Wish I knew more about what's going on - has to be a rift between KP and JJ.

If I were him I would head straight to UT. I don't see any definite answers at Texas for the next 2 years at QB and he's better than what they got right now. I definitely think he would have a definite shot at beating Ash and McCoy out. Texas was considering a JUCO QB at mid-term. Hell they even considered Tech backup Jacob Karam as a Senior transfer. Connor Brewer's stock dropped during recruiting and he's a true freshman. That would be hilarious. Say what you want but by all reasonable measurements he was a better QB than Gilbert so far.

Wouldn't that be a rub: we get UT's throw-away and the snatch up ours.

Hard to believe with all of the high rated star qb's the horns have signed, all of them stink. They should have a law suit against Rivals!

Glad to hear you are softening your heart when it comes to student athlete decisions of what is best for them.

It would be interesting if Printz's dad could expand and clarify the "deeper problems" he was referring to. I believe June Jones and his system is what interested him in SMU and is not the problem. I can further speculate and base my assumption on what I think Klem has told every one of his recruits.. You guessed it.. the lingering stench of the death house mentality and the pervasive conditional love and respect that is only shown after big wins and the disdain after a loss. Also I believe it indicates that Ponyfans attitudes can and probably effect recruits more than some want to believe regardless of their intellegence.

As for Padron leaving I wish him the best of luck. I also think Padron's self evaluation and decision to leave is a sign of the program rising to a level higher than he thinks he can compete. So if we can stay positive and create and maintain an atmosphere than Garret Gilbert wants to risk playing in everything could work out terrific.

Kyle Padron confirmed that he requested and received from SMU head coach June Jones a release to transfer to another school.

"It was a long, thought-out process that involved a lot of talking with my family, and ultimately I decided it's in my best interest to go elsewhere," Padron said. "My parents helped lay out the pros and cons, and I decided it's in my best interest to go somewhere else."

Padron said that being as competitive as he is, he didn't necessarily like the decision to make J.J. McDermott the Mustangs' starting quarterback after Padron was pulled from the opener at Texas A&M, but he understood and harbors no grudge against Jones or the other SMU coaches.

"It was always a competition," Padron said. "Coach Jones said from Day One that it's a competition, and the best players will play, and that's exactly what it was. Maybe I would have started here next year, maybe not, but for my total well-being, it's time to go somewhere else. Coach Jones and I had, and still have, a mutual respect for each other. He understands my decision, and offered a helping hand. I'm leaving on very good terms with him and the rest of the coaching staff."

Padron said that when he asked for his release, he had a long, positive conversation talks with both Jones and assistant head coach/offense Dan Morrison.

"Coach Jones said he wishes I wasn't leaving, but he transferred three times - he brought that up in our conversation - so he understands my thought process, he understands that sometimes you need a fresh start in football or outside of football," Padron said. "Coach Morrison also said he hates to see me go. The relationship I have had with him over the last three years is second to none. He has coached some great players, and I have learned so much from him and Coach Jones. They both said they'll stay in touch and they both said they'd do anything to help me, and that says a lot about them."

Padron said he has not yet begun to identify options for his next school. Instead, he is focused on getting fully healthy after having surgery to repair a torn joint capsule in his left ankle and rehabilitating his back after he hurt it lifting weights during the 2011 season.

"I have a lot of rehab to do, so that's my focus - getting completely healthy before I do anything else," he said. "I don't know if I have been completely healthy since the beginning of my sophomore year, so that's the first thing.

"SMU is a special place. I did a lot of special things here, in and out of football, and I’ll never forget those things. I built great relationships with the guys on the team, the coaches and the fans, and those are things I’ll cling to and take with me, wherever I go. I believe there are a lot more special things out there for me, and I’m eager to see what they are and where they are. But I'm really grateful to SMU, and I wish nothing but the best for my teammates and this coaching staff and the SMU fans, the entire SMU community. I made friendships here that I'll maintain for the rest of my life. This is a very close team, and these guys have affected my life in a big way."

Thanks for giving us some info on what Klemm is using against you in recruiting and encouraging us to stay positive, June. Now go recruit someone!

Class act.

Glad things seem mended with JJ.

Could KP became the next Josh McCown? He's got the potential, especially if he gets into the right program.
