Re: Padron gone??
I wish Kyle all the best. He was the one who lead us to our first bowl win since the DP and therefore holds a special place in SMU history. Going forward I think we will be just fine. Connor Preston enrolled early and will have 2 springs, 2 summers and 1 reg season under his belt come this fall. GG was a highly touted recruit but it is naive to assume that he will just roll in here and take over.

Re: Padron gone??
If it is going to be GG starting next year, I can say that we could have it worse than having a highly recruited starting QB from Texas coming in to fill as the answer for next year or so. But my only question I have is about his decision making on the field - time and time again I watched open receivers not even be looked at much less thrown to. I have no doubts about KP's physical ability, and Im sure GG is plenty able to do the job, but does anybody know what kind of decision making ability the kid has or how it might work in Jones's system?

I wish Kyle all the best too, but if he and his Daddy were asking June for some kind
of "guarantee" that Kyle would be the starter next year then I say "good riddance".

Re: Padron gone??
This just confirms what I heard at the Houston game from a player's dad. KP likely to transfer. It was surprising to me but the prospects at QB for SMU are good next year and excellent in 2013.

Sorry to see this but I'm not surprised either.
I wish him well.

Re: Padron gone??
The Hawaii Bowl was the most enjoyable football game I have ever seen.
Thank you, Kyle, and good luck.

Gilbert's decision-making was awful at Texas (struggled with progressions, held the ball too long, telegraphed passes), plus he has mechanical and footwork issues. Basically he's a very raw physical specimen and will have a tough time picking up the R&S (much tougher offense than any he's had to learn to this point).

No he got his release after this semester started so his semester has already been paid for.
I always thought if you had a scholly and quit the team you had to pay. He doesn't deserve a free ride for this semester since he is a quitter.

Ridiculous post. He is a good kid, gave a lot to SMU, was popular with his team, and shouldn't lose a semester of school over this. Quitter? Did you ever leave a job for a better situation? IMO school owes him a year of scholarship for the academic year and would look petty and vindictive to pull it out from under him.

Re: Padron gone??
Topper- my original question was based on the fact that I knew a player who quit 4-6 weeks into the fall season and was later asked to pay for that semester. Perhaps policies have changed.
Also, I suspect that a person on scholly is expected to participate in fall or spring drills in order to continue his 'free' education. Therefore a player who quits and will not be on the team should be expected to pay his own way. The university owes him nothing if he is not on the team. Should not matter is he is a nice boy or not, popular or not.

Re: Padron gone??
Well if Padron is indeed gone, Im truly bummed out for 2012. If anyone was to replace Padron it would be GG, but I was really hoping for a comeback for Padron to finish out CUSA, and thought GG would begin BE. I know Padron, and I hope he excels wherever he transfers to (if that is the case). Hes a good kid and had a great attitude. Never forget Hawaii Bowl '09!

Nobody is going to be perfect next year... with full support of the good and understanding and encouragement after the less than perfect the best possible progress will be made. Anything else is counter productive.
