there is a nice little article about Mapps in the Rockwall/Rowlett version of the DMU on January 5, 2005 that said SMU recruited Mapps as a RB. Mapps was heavily recruited by SMU, Rice and Navy(recruited as QB). The article also stated that OU had contacted him in recent weeks(prior to SMU commitment) but was interested in him as a CB.
WOW! check this out-(but remember its at the 3A level). On September 20, 2004 Mapps was named the DMN Offensive Player of the Week after scoring NINE TOUCHDOWNS and accounting for 510 yards Total Offense(the hard way) including 354 yards rushing on 27 carries and 7 TDs and 10 for 19 passing for 166 yards and 2 TDs. The Final Score was 70 -60 Royce City!!!!!! BTW he didn't play QB until his senior year-so this was about his THIRD GAME at the position. As a Junior he was an All-District DB-so that maybe where OU saw something
